afpr install trouble

afpr install trouble

So I thought this would be the easiest thing I've done so far, but of course Nissan has masterminded 2 phillips head screws that seem to rival the VIAS screws. These are the two screws that connect the FPR to the firewall side of the fuel rail.

I just used a drill with a bit on the end because I couldn't get them out by hand. The drill stripped out the entire inside of one, without skipping off the screw, meaning these things are in there. I'm chargin up the drill again right now to attempt to drill them out, but I'm kinda worried.

Anyone have to do this before? Are there any alternatives? I've pb blaster'd the hell out of these and one of them is completely stripped out.

What should I do!!?!?

Ohh and I need to know what size they are if I go ahead and kill them.

Sounds like you needed a bigger bit, or you weren't putting enough force behind the drill to break them free. Too late now. Sounds like you are going to either A. Need to rethread the screw holes after drilling (if you're lucky), or B. you will have to get a new fuel rail. I'd get a new fuel rail if I were you.

There's an easy way that's relatively cheap to get these out, I know there is.

Sure, dremel the heads of the screws so you can put a flathead screwdriver in there, but you run the risk of igniting the fuel lines. There is a kit out there that will get the bolt out, but it might not be cheap.

Keep a bottle of water near and tack-weld small bolts onto the remaining of the screws you have in there. good luck

Yeah true, do you think jb kwik weld will work....i don't really want to start a fire in my engine.

Did this happen to anyone else btw and why are the bolts for the damper hex heads?????

Just in case anyone else gets into a situation like this, I used a dremel and bored out the inside of the screw's head and then crumpled it with plyers so I was able to crank on it.

this is can also become an issue doing injector swaps. The screws like the FPR are soft and if you dont use a perfectly matched screw driver, they will strip. Replace them with Hex bolts so you can use a ratchet/socket afterwards to tighten them.

You are supposed to be able to use the correct size screwdriver to get these out without using the power drill.

Sounds like yours are stripped. I did have this situation one day, but I replaced the whole injector rail from my spare motor. But I was then able to remove those screws by using a lock/clamp plier, w/e you call it, to remove the screw, once they are stripped, there's no way to get them out unless using the pliers.

And Jcy is correct, do replace them with hex screws upon removal. It's the best way.

Also, I have a question... You are removing the stock FPR so that you can install your AFPR, right? Does yours come with an adaptor onto the rail? How are you doing this one? I'm asking because I thought we should just try to "gut-out" the stock FPR and find a place to inline the AFPR behind it. How are you approaching this AFPR install? Can you input it here? Maybe some pics would help. I'm asking because I am about to install an AFPR, too. And I do not know what to do best, yet. Thanks.

There are few ways to you can approach the stock fuel rail. One you mention already which is gutting out the stock FPR but to me that is still some what restrictive. The other way is purchase an adpater which replaces the stock FPR, you can buy it from an org memeber (sx7?). Its a fitting that bolts to the stock fuel rail and have a barb fitting for a fuel line to the AFPR. I will have to search on the org member...

He's out of sale, hence I gutted mine. And now I don't have one because someone must have stolen it. Lost all my hose too, wtf. Anyways you guys should go to my best fpr thread in the fi forum.
