3.5 IM on 3.0

I know this general question has been asked before, but I can't find the thread and do have something things to add on. Also, I know people will say that the 00VI and MEVI are better, but just hear me out.

Now, I can get a 3.5 IM for cheap. Like cheap enough that it's more than worth it to try. Now, I know the 3.5 isnt variable, but given the torque of the 3.5 and it's fairly impressive top-end, I'd atleast assume that besides the .5 liters of displacement, the IM helps alittle. I personally know of a guy (who unfortunately I can't get into contact with) that has a 3.5 Altima w/ full exhaust, pulleys and a worked IM. I havent seen any E.T's, but as the story goes, he was able to WALK around 2 3.5 Maxima's, one with headers back, intake and pulleys that traps 106 and another with the same mods PLUS JWT cams.

Anyway, as I was saying before, I know it might not be better than an 00VI or MEVI, but for the price I could get it for, I could get it ported and still come out alittle cheaper than either other IM. It's better than the factory IM either way, so if any body has any info or knowledge on this, please chime in.

Could he use the 3.5 heads and IM? Probably not worth the money but you never know.

Just because it's newer and is on cars that make more power, doesn't mean it's optimal for your car.

Also, it is a variable intake (VIAS equipped), it just doesn't have a true dual runner set-up, but again, it does have VIAS (V = Variable)

One more thing, members don't tell stories in this subforum like your friend, members prove with fact and data here.

Yep!

If you must do something, Gasket match and port and polish your upper and lower intake manifolds. Then send them to be extrude honed. Next, pull your exhaust manifols and grind the hell out of them to open up the air flow. Don't worry about making holes, they can be brazed later. Then take the manifolds to a shop to shot pean and coat them in and out with hi temp material. Next gasket match the exhaust manifolds to the heads.

I know this will boost your HP. Changing intake runners along with the electrical and mechanical headaches is only for people in the know.
Of course cost is another issue!

why are you so sure it will boost power? I've only read negative things about port and polishing. I asked before my 00vi and I was told that it was a waste of time and money. Do you have proof of this guaranteed hp gain?

Yea who are you talking to???? Any time the path way is smoother the faster/easier air will flow. If you have a gasket and manifolds that aren't even it causes air to slow down/be turbulent. Which is bad for power. Port/smooth it out and you get some power.

And check out the 00VI info in the stickies. Also look at the stock HP rating for 95-99's vs 00-01's as the manifold is from the 00-01's. Proof enough?

i dont need proof for the 00vi thats not what I was saying. The info in the 00vi sticky also has nothing to do with port and polishing anything. I wanted to know if he had any dyno proof of just port and polishing itself. I cleaned my new lower manifold, not an intense port and polish, just had brushes on the dremel to clean it all out. I don't think it helped anything at all.
