hi, ive been concidering aftermarket cams for my 00 max 5 spd as well. The only ones ive found are the jwt cams, after speaking with Ben at jwt he said i should expect about a 12hp increase around 3800 rpm to redline. I havent put my car on a dyno but i do own a gtech meter and have tracked my performance after every mod. Stock i ran 15.3 in a quarter with my stock 15s.And after a Cattman y pipe and exhaust w/02s and my stillen pop charger i ran a 15.0 with 17s <Forged kazera kz-v with bold tires>. The gtech estimated an increase of about 15hp. Now thats not a difference i noticed at all by the butt dyno so i am wondering if the 12hp from the cams is worth paying roughly 2 grand for.
I will also be changing the flywheel and crank pulley before this mod so i still have time to research it a bit further.
Does anyone know of a higher performance cam for the 00 maxima?
Nothing too radical though it is a daily driver.

edit: moved to all motor because it's not a forced induction related question

If its a dd car, then don't upgrade the cams. There's much more hp out there for less money.

Really? why could he not upgrade to VQ35 cams? Less aggresive yet a lot better the the 3.0 crap cams and still daily driveable.

More can be had for less. I'd spend more time and money on ECU/piggyback tuning before getting cams. They are obviously not the bottleneck @ stock rev limit. After you've found that bottleneck through tuning, then upgrade the cams.

$600 EU vs 2g's for cams (his quote, not mine). not to mention that you will get more power from the EU, AND you get the ability to take advantage of the cams when he gets them later ie: higher rev limit.

I guess. Yea cams aren't terribly cost-effective if it's not D-I-Y.

Be glad you have a VQ, and not an EJ. 4 banger or not, those things you can hardly do plugs while the motor's in the car, cams or even removing the valve covers is impossible (or extremely close to it). Even worse than doing a VQ waterpump in the car.

hi guys! and thanks for responding to my questions,
yes the 2gs are including installation for the cams with valve springs.I have concidered upgrading my ecu but because i have an 00 gxe max many triangle square, jwt included have said they dont offer anything for my year. Which is weird cause they offer ecu's for 01 maximas. I asked if i can just slap an 01 ecu into mine and they said none has done it so they didnt know if it would work.
i think dfownz and others mentioned i can do other mods for less money an more hp besides nitrous or fi what are my other options?
I am doing flywheel an crank as i mentioned before.

Don't get me wrong, cams will add power, however, tune before you do anything, then add to it. You'll be much safer and satisfied....not to mention quicker.

As for other mods: Proper exhaust (depending on goals), fuel upgrades and management (fpr, pump, injectors, safc or eu or whatever you decide on, etc), intake, headwork, etc.

I think i will take the advice from you and Nmexmax and deffinitly persue other mods BEFORE i crack my motor open and mess with my internals. I am almost certain i will go with a greddy emanage, but the only thing that holds me back is that i havent been able to find another 00-01 running a emanage successfully. I guess i might have to be the pioneer tuner on this one
