vq35hr im??

so i work at infiniti, which means im around vq35hr's a lot, and i was thinking. i remember seeing someone try the new altima im, and that didnt work, but has anyone ever tried a vq35hr im? im sure the dual tb would be overkill, but i was more interested in the interior design, in comparison to the normal rwd vq35 im.

the problem is the same as the fitment with the 07 alti intake, since both have hr heads. port design is different than our DE heads

Do you work for Dreyer? I used to go to the one in Greenwood when I attended IUB.

It was me that tested the altima IM, and the port designs are the same. The problem is that the altima/HR heads are taller, so the distance in between them has also increased, so the bolts/ports on the LIM doesn't line up with our heads.

Technically LA02MAX is correct. The shape of the intake ports are pretty much identical. Now if you meant to say port spacing/position, then you'd be correct.

lol, yeah i dont really mind. i meant more or less what la02 said (have read his thread about it a couple times). but youre right, should have said head height/valley spacing is different

i do have a question though...what is the reason that the upper cant be used with our lower? are the bolts to the LIM in a different location?

So.... does it mean that 07 alti gets a vq36HR but with single TB IM?

1) its still a vq35de
2) it remains with the DE bottom end
3) it has the heads of an HR but with a double variable intake and single TB

How long do you think until an SSIM comes along for that manifold?

The altima LIM molds from oval runners coming out of the heads (like ours) into the square runners of the upper IM. If we used just the upper, THEN the ports/gaskets wouldn't match up.

If ports match.. I'm sure that vq35de LIM can be re-drilled and tapped, but the ? is what gains just the upper IM will provide.

...meaning it's basically a VQ35DE (bottom) with HR heads?!

That would be a serious PITA to port match our LIM to the altima's (or HR's) UIM, as the runners are an entirely different shape...

agreed, IMO if someone is going to put that much work in, they might as well build a custom plenum upper to bolt to the stock LIM. in fact, i feel that its not a bad idea if you were to cut the stock UIM about 3" above the flange and weld a new plenum onto that...or just build a whole new UIM
