Activating CVT solenoid

Okay guys... sorry if its been addressed or asked already but I have looked and cant seem to find anything on what i'm looking for but has anybody tried to power the CVT solenoids using a window/rpm switch!?

I have a rpm switch that i'm not using and the VAFC that I can use to activate the solenoid, but I'm really not sure if it would be okay to do so or even safe, being that its dealing with changing the oil pressure and not having anything monitor the pressure if something goes wrong!? Do I make sense!? hehehe

They aren't an on/off kind of thing. Hence the "continuous" part of the name. It's not VTEC.

I recall something on the lines of an EU would be a likely choice however complicated.

You just jogged my memory a bit. I think there was talk of it, but IIRC it didn't work with the Maxima's specific signal or something? (but it DID work with the Z maybe?) Either that or something other than the EU was getting support for it...I don't remember.

My understanding is that the solenoid activates at 2000 rpms. Wouldnt it be okay for me to activate it to open at the 2000rpm range and have the closing point at around 8000rpom on the rpm switch, this way it stay active throughout 2000rpm+?

I dont know if you guys are aware but i'm talking about it reffering to my 3.5 swap.

Regardless of which motor you are talking about, the VAFC is designed to work from ONE given crossover point. In order for you to do what you are trying to do you would need a Window switch something on the lines of the MSD.

Are you trying to alter cam timing? If so, you need CVTC intake sprockets, but then you'd also need the VQ35 timing covers, etc.

Then controlling it properly is another story altogether...

It's not as simple as a window switch.

The solenoids are pulse width modulated similar to your injectors.

The main problem is the system needs feedback to know where the cam is in relation to the crank so it knows how much it needs to move.

Thats the short and quick of it.

I understand now.. thats reasonable... It seemed to good to be true that I really didnt see or hear of anybody doing it so I thought i'd ask.

The subject got brought up when I was talking to Calumsult, I dont know if any of you are familiar with him, but he converts B14 ECU's to be realtime, fully programmable ECU's. He was over at my house looking at the car and he brought it up.

BTW, he's actually working on my ECU to try to convert it over to a realtime ECU, which is something that would be great for us. We wont have to go the expensive route in buying the EU to tune our cars.

My friend currently has his B14 ECU that Calum did for him and he's able to adjust timing, fuel maps, rev limiters, etc.... its great!
He told me that he is familiar with JWT and T/S's programs and if they can do it, he can do it. So lets see.

My ECU is still in the process so i'll keep you guys posted on it.
