All you need for an automatic shifter at whatever RPM you want to set it at is a window switch hooked to the + on the manual shifter. Forget about the 5 solenoids it only takes something to tell it at what RPM to shift at. You could also use an EU or UTEC to control it as well. I am going to rig one up for my G, too simple as opposed to the 4 spd.

I see that Manual Mode Switch Circuit can be set in Manual Mode, then there is an Up and Down switch somewhere that is used to signal the TCM to shift the car. Pretty slick - but chances are the TCM will actually shift only when and as hard as the TCM decides to shift. That likely won't be as hard and fast as directly shifting by switching voltages directly to the solenoids. Plus you can boost the internal pressure by opening one wire - I think..

You can probably accomplish as much by hanging a tachometer with a shift light on the dash and pushing the Up button when the light flashes.

LOL, when I was running at MIR on Sunday, two drag Harley's had LED shift lights also for the no brainer affect. Light comes on, SHIFT!!!

By increasing the line pressure and using the manual mode it shifts just as hard as my 4th Gen, plus with a window switch or EU its fully automatic, no chance to screw up. I tried this yesterday on my G35. Plus its super easy to setup and cheap.

I'd appreciate any info on what parts or things required to do this...

Back in the olden days, we used to rotate the tach (aftermarket, of course) until redline was straight up 12 o'clock. Needle pointing straight up, shift.

Hey guys, i just orderd the suprastick. Wanted to know jim. is it possible to leave the torque converter part stock being ran by the TCM and only just control the shifts via the suprastick. for now i dont wanna mess with the TC. i wanna get this straight, basically, u cut the cables between tcm and tranny for the solenoids, u run both ends into the suprastick, and the suprastick basically gets the signal and modifies it to wat u want and sends it to the tranny?

Suprstick ONLY communicates w/the TCM, so TC interface / communication = non existent.

ok, thats what i thought. do you have any other tranny supporting mods?
race TC, cooler, etc? i don't i'll ever use the TC lockup feature since the car and tranny is old as is plus i have the DR mod that'll go w/ the suprastick. only thing i have supportive is an oil cooler i just mod.

I was away for the long weekend at the track or I would have answered earlier but I see you got it figured anyway. Garrett is really fast at responding to questions so good support. I have my TC hooked up because I am not using the stock TCM at all. The Suprashift is easy to setup though for the TC. I just set mine for around 40 in 3rd and 55 in 4th for normal street driving. For the track I have to set them both up really high so it doesnj't lock at all there. I will play some when I get the time with it locking up but i doj't think it will help track times, just makes the gearling a little taller when it locks up. I am still below redline in 3rd at the end of the 1/4 so I really don't want it any higher. I am going to try locking in 1st and keeping it locked through the shifts just to see though.

The only time I use the manual mode is at the track. I get wheelhop if I burnout in 1st so I now do it in 2nd, so its just a flick of the switch to manual mode, flip up to 2nd gear, burnout and switch back to auto for the start. I did forget to switch back to auto once and started in 2nd but I don't forget anymore. After 8 or 10 times I starts to catch on.

thnx jime for the input.

wooooohoooooo i got the suprastick!! alot of wires lol. no biggie though.
For now I am going to basically just wire up the solenoids and nothing more, just to mess with the shifting (automatic) then little by little add everything else, like the manual mode, then mess with the TC, etc..

question though, i remember when i did the shift_fast mod, i was only able to shift upto 3rd gear. Does this work the same? or will i be able to also shift to 4th using suprastick?

I have been in and out in this thread...

But I was wondering if you can shift up and down with this, or is it similar to the shift_fast mod where you can only go up?

I posted the answer for 4th gear a long time ago, don't know if anyone's actually tried it out though.

You can shift to any gear, just put it in D and you can manually shift to 4th and take off in 4th if you wish.

I used the left front abs sensor (closest). The others gave me erroneous readings, ie trans sensors.

Would the MPH signal output to the speedometer be another good source?

Tried that. You may have better success with the 4th gen cluster, mine is from an 03.

and as far as the brake signal, can i just use the signal from the brake switch behind the pedal? what kind of voltage or signal does the ss4v pick up as brake?

well..

I wired up the unit, will only RPM, Speed, tps, power, ground, did not wire up the solenoids yet. I went into hyperterminal, when i connect i dont get the option to press 1. All i get is for example: a 1 15 0 250 and nothing more, i press 1 and nothing. I assume you dont need to have the solenoids wired up to be able to configure or at least be able to go into the initial settings right? can u give me some advice on this, by the way the reason i didnt hook up the solenoids just yet is because i wanted to see if everything else was fine.

Hmm. What are you using for a serial to usb or does your laptop have a serial port? Not sure what else to try. Did you setup the the serial port with the settings in the manual?

well I got it to work, spoke with Garrett, and told me take off hardware flow and leave as none in hyperterminal, perfect, now i can go through the menu. How ever i am not getting any reading from MPH, i tapped into behind the cluster. any advice on where else i can get speed sensor from. not sure where the abs speed sensor wires are located.

EDIT: i just got the speed sensor working. was getting the wrong wire. back out to wire up the solenoids. woohooo

ITS WORKING!!!!
Well I just finished wiring up the two solenoids, had a few problems setting it up because i had the wrong speed sensor signal, I then used the middle harness behind the cluster pin #28. It works good in my case. I still have to perfect it, im not 100% sure how to set the throttle though, it shifts at WOT at about 5000rpm so something is a bit off, might be speed. as far as shifting, its pretty cool just gets a bit of getting used too, like not setting the 4>3 at too high of mph or else it will conflict with the 3>4. The shifts are instant just like when i had the shift_fast mod done. its cool. ill take a screen shot later on

So this shifts like the shift_fast mod, but it uses a speed input to determine when to shift? What happens with gradual acceleration at part throttle, does it still shift at the set speed? Because that sounds dangerous to the transmission which such harsh shifts at part throttle.

glad to hear its working! so when your doing the automapping, are you setting both shift tables 1 and 2? 1 for normal driving and 2 i guess for harsher driving?

also, i was wondering if you or Jime could check my wiring diagram just for future reference whenever i get this. i want to do this right the first time and not screw up anything. never can be too careful

Suprastick:
wire 1: wire to ground source
wire 2: wire to a SPST switch, other end to +12V source
wire 3: tap into pin 24 on ecu
wire 4: 2nd pic
wire 5: 2nd pic
wire 8: could you elaborate on the "middle harness" behind the cluster pin #28 that you used. like, which wire and color are you referring to?
wire 9: tap into pin 23 on ecu
wire 10: which wire for the cancel button do you tap into?
wire 11: tap into pin 5 on ecu
wire 12: which is the 12v source for the switch behind the brake pedal?
the red w/ yellow stripe or red w/ blue stripe?
wire 13: 2nd pic
wire 14: 2nd pic
wire 15: not used
wire 16: not used
wire 17: again, which wire do you tap into for the coast set button?
wire 18: what is this for?
wire 19: what is this for?
wire 20: wire to a SPST switch, other end to a +12V source

q4nismo, i got my RPM signal from behind the cluster since i have too many things hooked up to the ECU's harness, it interrupts the signal when you have to many devices off one wire. also i got the speed sensor from the middle harness in the cluster, its pin 28. as for the solenoids, you got it right. For ground, you dont have to go through the trouble and get the harness ground, you can ground it to anything in the car (bolts or anything).

This sounds tempting, I really hate the auto shift points and would like to see what is really good with this.
