350z motor, ecu and harness swap
this might be a dumb question BUT, what besides money would keep us from swapping a vq35de or vq35hr motor, ecu and wire harness from a 350z. would the hr bolt up to our transmission?
the reason for this swap would be because of the endless amount of products they make that only work on 350z. example uprev makes this new product called osiris ( http://uprev.com/products/products.html ) there is also a company around here, Alteredatmosphere, that actually reflashes ecu's on the spot. for 350z and g35's of course. all the cool products are for the g350z ...
how much work would be involved if at all possible.

E-mail Up-Rev and tell them that you are a Maxima owner interested in the Osiris program...you would be the 3rd Maxima owner e-mailing them. I have offered them my ECU for testing (6th gen) and they said that they are extremely busy/packed with other projects ATM, so I should try back within 2 months.

Also, the items listed don't impress me enough to go the the trouble of a CAN-drenched ECU swap. There are many things available for both the FWD and RWD platforms as far as the drivetrain/powertrain is concerned that most people don't bother getting or researching.

I've e-mailed them numerous times and have an ECU ready for shipping to actually test the equipment out; they just don't have the "time" at the moment.

The VQ35 HR will bolt to the same bellhousing that the VQ30 will bolt to. I have found that the top two motor mount holes in the VQ35 timing chain cover are in the same location as the VQ30 but the VQ35 is about 3mm thicker and they stagger the mounting bosses. I not saying to try and put the HR in a Maxima but just from my experience they will bolt to the tranny.

No. The website explicitely states that the Osiris software will link itself to the first ECU it comes into contact with and will flash only that ECU.

Yeah, I just looked it up too...
...maybe I've been tracking it for so long that when it was blossoming, they did not realize that they could LOSE money if they enabled it for multiple vehicles...and from there they have obviously changed it.

I have a tube frame race car that was originally set up with a VQ30 from a Maxima. Last year I ran the VQ30 in the car but this year I am putting in a VQ35hr out of a G35. I have a custom modified pathfinder oil pan and it only bolts up at the starter area but all the bolts and dowels in the motor line up. I have the motor installed right now and the only mods I have had to do is where I bolt up the front motor mount. I have also bolted up a non rev-up VQ35DE and it matches up to all the holes also. I have found that the holes and dowels in the bell housing area of the two motors are the same but I only use the oil pan mount area at the starter. I also have a VQ30 pathfinder pan that I use on both motors and they bolt right together. I am able to mix and match parts from various motors to get where I need to be but to do this in a Maxima would be a lot more difficult.

As far as I know, all of the VQ's (except the vq40 and I'm not sure about the HR) have the same bolt pattern on the block, but it's the upper oil pan that is different. I also believe that all of the lower oil pans are interchangeable.

What is your experience? What basis do you have for the statements you've made? It doesn't make sense in any way shape or form that Nissan would make their RWD VQ35DE only match up to their RWD tranny, and then redesign to a RWD VQ35HR and all of a sudden it matches up to an older FWD tranny. If you have a basis for what you said then that's good news, but it doesn't seem logical.

It's not a truck motor. It was developed back when Nissan had tons of loot in the late 80's. Way ahead of its time. It's probably the most overbuilt motor Nissan has ever made.

Back on topic, couldn't you just use the VQ35DE from a FWD and then use the ECU and Harness from a 350Z (non-revup)? It seems like it would make things a lot easier for installation.
Or what prevents 5.5 gens from swapping in the 350Z ecu? Obviously you would have to change the connections for the harness to the 350Z style but isn't this a possibility?
