All swap gurus, i have a question 4 u...

This may be a stupid question to some but please bare with me. I have been wondering for a long time if u can use a 6spd flywheel and clutch on a full 3.5 swap with a 4th gen 5 spd trans. I have been told by a very reliable source that it cant be done but the person didnt elaborate as to why it wouldnt work. Is it a fitment issue within the bellhousing? Or some other reason that I just dont know (yet)? This all stems from being turned away by 3 different people that i approached to fab an adapter spacer for my 5 spd flywheel. Thanx guys.

flywheel ......... left - A32 ................................... right - A33B

crank mounting face to ring gear - ~13.0mm differential
crank mounting face to clutch friction surface - ~15.7mm differential

Possible issues include (but are not limited to)
1. clearance within clutch housing
2. clutch disc spline axial position relative to mating spline on input shaft
3. release bearing/shift fork positioning
4. starter/ring gear mesh - shim starter to resolve

IMO a spacer/timing ring weldment is significantly more straightforward.

You mentioned that you have been turned away by three people for fabrication of one. Were they all .org members or did you go to some local machine shops?

I didnt realize the differences would be so extreme...

i went to local shops and when i explained what had to be done, they all refused, giving various excuses. it would be nice if one of the expert machinists from the .org would start making them....

You are approaching them wrong.

You need to go the machine shop with a drawing that details exactly what you want. (ie. fully dimensioned with tolerances). They do not even need to know what its function is.

I will see if I still have the drawings I used.

Thank u eng92. I guess I was giving too much info because after I told them what it was for then the questions came about the car...
I do have a basic idea of what it should look like. I dont the inner and outer diameters. i remember u posting the thickness is 3/8". Another concern is placement of the timing ring and how it would effect the timing (start up/ idle and running) because the fly (oem) has a dowel pin which i assume is to keep the timing ring in the correct position when reinstalling it. Right?
