Auto 1st gear holding me back. Anything I can do?

Ok so my auto 1st gear is killing. After my swap and Greddy EU install my redline is now 7500. My first gear goes to early when pushed (6000). Is there any way or mod I can to hold it longer as it drops my rpm's too low for 2nd gear to kick nicely. I'm not looking for anything that great as I hope on doing a 5-speed next year.

Thanks,

I thought even if you extend your rev limiter, you would have to manually shift the auto in order to take advantage of the higher redline.

This is where an RPM-switch automated shift_fast (or the new SupraStick bandwagon) comes very handy.

Why not manually shift? That's what I did to use my 7200rev limit back when I was auto

^ ^ ^ he's got it nailed - but, if you want to experiment a bit. first do the DR-mod ( open one wire on the big resistor on the driver's shock tower) then pull the shift lever back to first gear and wind out your motor close to 7500 and click the shift lever up to 2nd gear.

If you like what you feel, then a different shifter is needed. Your stock TCU (transmission computer) is presently shifting at stock RPMs. Sounds like your motor is pretty healthy, so trying the manual 1-2 shift should be exciting...

Does any one have more info on the Shift_fast mod? I've read a bit but a lot of links are dead.

Also I was just concerned about about reliability with manually shifting. (FYI I have a VB and tranny cooler)

Why not just keep the shifter in Low/first?

Nothin wrong with manually UP-shifting. When you force downshifts, that's what hurts the tranny

It sucks when you let it bounce off the rev. limiter; especially at 7200-7500.

Not looking to spend that much. Might look into the Shift_Fast for now as I'm not sure if I'll be able to do the tranny swap next year.

For Auto's, Do I stay on the gas when shifting or do release until the shift is complete?

Stay on the gas, no need to lift.

Isn't the "BANG" into gear kinda bad for the trans when manually shifting to another gear.. ex 1st to 2nd @ stock 6600 rev limiter?
