4th gen full 3.5 swap engine/trans question
So when choosing a 3.5 engine, I can choose any year FWD 3.5 as long as I also get the 02/03 ECU, keys, and harness? Is this correct?
Even those new HR motors?
Even up to 2008 with the new black IM?
And which year manual trans can bolt up to which year engines? for example, can the 2005 trans bolt up and work with the 2008 engine?
Thanks

I wouldn't go with anything over, say, '06. That's just from a simplicity and economical standpoint.
There are no FWD HRs.
IIRC all of the FWD VQs have the same bolt pattern. I know this for up to '06, but haven't had my hands on anything newer (in FWD, anyway).

Heres the deal:
I found out my boy has an 08' Altima front clip, and its got the 6 speed manual trans. Computer,engine/dash harness....6k miles on the stuff....
What do you say? Yay or Nay and if nay please explain why.
Thank you

Mind you, unless you swap over everything, you're still going to have to do a bit of wiring.

Would the said components be easier or harder to swap than '02/03 setup? wiring wise of course. Or should I just pick up what he has, but also get a 02/03 ECU, Nats, dash harness and engine harness and use that with the '08 engine/trans?

Cluster; yes I would plan to use it.
So since it is unknown whether or not an '08 harness will work, should I just get the engine and trans regardless, and pick up the 02/03 harness? The Altima 6spd trans and engine are the exact same as in a maxima right?

Well the 08 harness wont wire up to the 02\03 harness. if you have the 08 cabin harness then you wont need the whole harness, you'll have to trim it down cause you'll only need a few of the connectors from that harness. everything else will have to be spliced in. Wiring up a 6 speed is a hell of alot easier than wiring up an automatic. At least with the 6 speed you wont get a CAN cel code & you wont have to wire up a tranny. I have a full swap auto & i not to long finished a friend of mine 6 speed full swap. There is a hell of alot wiring when doing a full swap.

I do not think anyone here will be able to tell you 100% for sure.
I am sure a lot of them are the same (but probably not all) If you have access to the fsms for both model years, it is pretty easy to compare the connector pin layouts.
You may need to get both harnesses and splice parts of the 08 onto the 02/03 for the connectors that are different.
