4th gen auto FD swap?

95-01 Maxes have the R04F04A trannies all with either the 3.619 or 4.019 final gears

02-03s have the R04F04Bs with the 3.789, and Altima 2.5s have the R04F04Bs with the 4.425

I'd imagine differences between the As and Bs being significant enough to thwart tranny swaps outright. My question is, are they close enough in design to swap final gears and differentials? A 4.4 gear on a 95-99 Max auto box would be pretty boss. Even the upgrade to the 5th gen gear would be cool.

Which 3.0 has a 4.019? I see the 3.619 in 95-99s and a 3.789 in 00-01s.

You can find it in the FSMs.

The maxima 5spd is a 3.82 final drive, there is a 3.65 final drive from the old 94-97 altima that works for the open diff transmissions, and also a 3.90 (3.895) availale for both the VLSD and open diff transmissions. There is also a 4.17 available from the nissan bluebird and a 4.47.

There is also a .740 5th gear from the 94-97 altima that would work, as well as some other gear ratios in some GTIR and Bluebird transmissions that would work. You can read about them in my original post here.

There are also some others if my memory serves me correctly but I could not find the posts about such, I think something may be severely wrong with the search function because it's not returning many posts that I know I've posted about transmissions and final drive ratios, etc.

Keep in mind I am talking about AUTOMATIC trannies here, not manuals.

We're aware, you listed the R04F04A and B in your original post, that's why we specifically mentioned 5 speeds because it wasn't the answer to your question but still somewhat related.

Also, where did you find info about a 4.019 FD? I don't see it in any FSMs for 3.0s.

I as well can find no indication of any 4.019 FDs, in any USDM Nissan vehicle.

I got all my info here

http://www.vibratesoftware.com/html_...les.htm#Maxima

My fault for confusing the R0s and REs. Again my focus is on autos as I plan on getting an auto 4th gen next.

Not seeing 4.019 on there, but regardless I wouldn't take those #s as gospel. Go by FSM numbers from the SDS in the back of the AT section. That website has the 5th gear gear ratio incorrect for the 4th gen 5 spd so who knows what other ratios they got wrong.

With regards to your original question, you might be able to use the 4.08 from the 97+ altima possibly. Wouldn't be too hard to check if you can pick up a blown altima trans for a hundred bucks or so.

Yea that would work.

I have a car performance simulator... there's a noticeable difference in going from the 3.6 to the 4.07, but outside of a faster 0-60 basically no difference in going from the 4.07 to 4.3 (outside of prob worse gas mileage). However once you start making more power (~230 crank) the gap between the 3.6 and 4.0 starts to fade. Maybe its not worth it.
