VQ35 carnage pics.. :)

After my customer's unfortunate encounter with a dead deer, and the subsequent loss in oil pressure, from said deer's encounter with the oil filter on his engine..

I give you.. Pics of destruction!! :P

First sign of trouble.. No, that's not leaves/sticks.. it's metal.

Lookings like a perfectly clean/low mileage engine.. as it should..

And...

Then, I pulled the oil pump off.. and found this stuck behind it.. Looks like beef jerky.. I can assure you that it's not.

There's supposed to be around .001" of clearance, between the main bearing and the crankshaft's journal. That's more like 1/16". LOL!

At this point.. the block is toast.. the main bearings have spun, and destroyed the saddles where the bearings would sit. To the scrap pile..

The rod bearings, surprisingly, didn't spin.. They were destroyed, and on their way to spinning, but, not quite there, yet.

I didn't take pics of it, but, it looks like the oil pump may have crapped out, too. Not sure if that happened before, or after the main bearings went. The fact that Jerry was able to drive 5 hours, AFTER this incident, is a testament as to how tough these engines are. The thing was knocking around, with 1/16" of clearance, and still going down the highway. This engine is toast.. but, at least it went out fighting!

Except for the VQ35 rod bolts and stock rings-especially on the rev-up.
