Glowing Header

Since 3.5 swap into 4th gen maxima with 5spd swap. I have a glowing header on only one bank, the bank nearest the firewall, Its glowing a bright orange not long after running the engine at idle maybe 3-4 minutes. I'm afraid to drive the car for fear of doing permanent damage to the internals of the motor. The header near the radiator are normal. In the morning im going to pull the plugs to check them and get an idea of whether or not i am running rich or lean. I wanted to know if any of you guys had any other ideas.

i think that you are getting high EGTs sometimes caused by a lean mixture but

does the front side headers gets glowy(maybe a little) or is it ok???

it coud be that the one on the rear dos not get ventilation

the front header is completely normal not even a hint of glowing. I did want to add in that the idle is a little rough and i am running emanage ultimate. I'm not sure if this problem is related to tuning but i would assume that would affect both headers and not just the back one.

emanage ultimate allows you to control each combustion chamber, so your tune could have affected the rear bank

If its glowing at idle that fast, then It could be a few things,...

Very Lean,
Very retarded ignition timing
Cam timing is off...

I have seen a few instances where overly rich was causing it to glow because the fuel would condense to the head pipe and then it would burn after the exhaust valve closes and fresh air travels back up the pipe, but only maybe once or twice.

Just an FYI, EGT's actually drop after stoich is met (14.7:1). EGT's are highest @ 14.7:1, and drop on either end of that.

Wideband readout/data?

We all idle @ 14.7:1 (most of us) and that's the theoretical highest EGT. And none of us have glowing manifolds or headers. Weird.

What type of headers are they?

it's glowing at IDLE? holy crap.

cam timing off (meaning exhaust valves are opening early) or exhaust valve issues would be my guess.

I dont know the name of the headers Ive had them for probably a year and a half now. I have been looking to get some more since they are beginning to crack, probably because i bought them from an ebay store.

I pulled the spark plugs and this is what they look like.

I just pulled a my codes and I have a code for the ref crankshaft position sensor could that retard the timing enough to cause the glowing

I tore the engine down and the timing was spot on. I tried switching the fuel rail. Tomorrow I am going to do a leakdown test tommorow
