Buying a used vq35

My friend is getting serious about swapping a vq35de into his 4th gen. He is buy a used one with low miles. He wants to know if their is anything that he should look out for when buying a used engine, lets say from a junkyard that was in a crash. Also where are some of the best places to find these engines, or would new be the best way to go?

If he gets a 5.5 Gen (02-03) VQ35 tell him to replace the rear valve cover with an 04 valve cover. Its a common issue with 5.5 gens that leads to oil burning.

Or just get an 04 vq35 lol either way.
