Ranma's 2002 Nissan Maxima build

Decided t take Roc's suggestion and do a post about my progress on my engine build. This is for a 2002 Nissan Maxima SE 6-Speed. At this point I have Cattman headers, fast cat, 3" catback exhaust, from the headers to the muffler is ceramic coated by JETHOT, Stillen UD Pulley, NWP Spacers, and NWP BOP. I also have fidanza flywheel and SPEC Stage 2 Clutch.

Suspension: Eibach Pro Kit Springs, Tokico Blue shocks, FSB, ES Shifter bushings, control arm bushings and subframe and motor mounts.

What I plan on doing now is getting a custom intake Manifold from SFR and getting the elbow made to fit the 2009 Maxima TB. The 09 Maxima TB is 75mm and stock 02 Maxima TB is 70mm.

To do this I had to order a 2009 engine harness because the connectors on the 09 TB are totally different from the 02 TB. Tomorrow I am going to cut the pigtail off the 09 harness and use the 09 and 02 Maxima FSM's to wire them up correctly to test the 09 TB.

I also plan on using the 90mm LRMAF and 3.5" intake piping with an AEM filter and V stack! I plan on tuning using the 350z Haltech Platinum Pro.

It's getting late and I need to go to sleep...I'll report more later but here are some pics:

SFR Custom Intake Manifold:

350z Haltech platinum Pro:

09 TB and LRMAF:

LRMAF outer Diameter:

LRMAF connected to 09 TB:

09 Engine Harness(thanks to aackshun):

09 TB pigtail:

Plan to have everything installed, dynoed and tuned by Mid November......we'll see how much hp I'll make!! Hoping for about 280hp....

So far I have: LRMAF (thing is HUGE), 09 TB and pigtail, AEM 6x5 filter, 3.5" Vstack from BPI.....

Going to order this week: SFR custom Manifold, 350z Haltech Platinum Pro wired up for PnP for Maxima.

Then I'll need to find a gasket for the 09 TB and get a stock 02 Gasket for where the lower mani and upper mani connect. Wont be able to close the hood using NWP upper mani spacers there. I believe it will still fit using the NWP lower spacers though, they are not as thick.

Once I get the manifold in hand then I can start to measure for the 3.5" intake tubing.

Use nuts (or washers) to space the hood out accordingly.

Unless it's just THAT big where you can't even reasonably do that...

I will see if I have the clearance. I know 1swtmax has this manifold and he told me with the spacers he could not close his hood so he ended up getting an aftermarket vented hood. Tim from SFR said not to use spacers because there is already enough plenum volume and runners are longer so I really don't think I'll need the sapcer there, who knows. If I don't need it I will just sell the 3 piece NWP spacer kit (TB, elbow and uppermani) with my stock 02 intake. I think I'll be able to get something for it!!

Any idea what the actual volume on that IM is, or at least in relation to the stocker?

OK...talked to Tim and he told me stock is about 2L and this intake manifold is a little over 3L.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK I finally got the 09 TB wired up just to test and see if it works, IT DID!! I thought I recorded a video of it but somehow it did not record. So I'm not going to take all that electrical tape BACK off again and re-connect the 09 TB just to re-record, forget it! Man was I pissed Next time make a note to actually CHECK the video before I put everything back. You'll just have to believe me...lol. I did get some pics though:

09 TB connected:

Labeled 09 TB pigtail:

I also placed the order with SFR for the intake manifold, Haltech, their custom engine cover and they will powder coat the manifold and engine cover with a polished coating...similar to the JET hot coating on the exhaust! I can't wait. I also have to mail them the 09 TB so that they can match it up with the new IM.

I need to find a place around here that can just do a base dyno...want to know how much I'm putting down now and compare it with later!

Dunno but I'm going off of this (compare it to OTHER "high performing" motors), and other things other N/A-Samas have told me.

VQ35 engines have TONS of potential! I seen a dude on the 350z forum with a custom manifold, 90mm TB, and 3.5" piping with nismo cams, headers full 3" exhaust and a tune make 327whp!! No head porting, no high compression pistons, STOCK motor, only NISMO cams. 327hp!! Imagine if he got heads ported, and some higer CR pistons and some more aggressive cams! Don't forget SPARKS made 285hp with NO CAMS and a stock TB!!! TONS of potential in these engines!!!

OK...today setup a DYNO appointment, NO TUNE, just to see what numbers I'm putting down for Monday at 430pm!! I'm thinking probably about 240hp un-tuned, we'll see. I will post the dyno sheets later that day.

In other news I mailed off the 09 Maxima TB to Speedforceracing today so they can match it up with the manifold and the AEM filter came with the BIG 6" opening today, this thing is massive! Now I'm waiting for the V-stack from BPI:

Well went to Advanced Auto and finally bought an OBD II Scanner because it's the 4th time I went up there asking them to check the SES light that I throw messing around with my car. So I figured I'd just buy one to avoid having to go there all the time. It's not Cipher but it'll do.....

Tomorrow is the BIG DYNO DAY!!!! Can't wait!!!

OK FINALLY got the DYNO BABY!!! I was SHOCKED the car made so much power.....I was thinking 240hp.....but NOT 259hp!!

MODS: Cattman Headers, Fast Cat, 3" catback exhaust, Stillen UD Pulley, NWP Spacers, Custom Short Ram intake, AEM filter w/ BPI Vstack....NO TUNE!

Run 1: 256hp & 250 ft-lbs.

Run 2: 258hp & 249 ft-lbs.

Run 3: 259hp & 251 ft-lbs.

Run 4: 256hp & 247ft-lbs.

Got videos of the runs too......they just taking all day to upload on youtube and I will post them later.

The guy told me with a tune I would make 280hp easy. The tuner said the car took a SHIZNIT around 5200rpms and that was hurting the power AND that is NOT including the LRMAF and 3.5" intake tubing OR the custom manifold with 09 Maxima TB. I probably would be close to 290ish with all that!!!

The tuner there is named STEVE and he is a master at Nissans. I spoke with him about my plans to sleeve the engine and bore it out and everything. He told me that if I decided to go turbo they can make me a custom system and I can boost 6 PSI and I would get 360 hp easy with a tune on a STOCK motor and would not have to touch anything. He also tole me I can run 8 PSI daily too and that would push me close to, if not, over the 400hp range. He said they can custom design a system that would work with the Cattman headers and it would go really good with the custom manifold I'm getting. He said making a custom turbo would cost about HALF of what I would spend building an ALL MOTOR car and it would give me about twice the power and be totally reliable. He told me that they design and build turbos for 350zs, Altimas, G35s....etc. He told me that he could get me a smaller turbo so it would spool up quicker and it would be good up top as well and that way I can have more fun driving it around as a daily driver......SOOOOOOO TMEPTING!!!!!

Around the beginning of November I should be receiving the SFR Manifold, and Haltech. I will schedule a dyno and tune about a week after that so I'm estimating Middle of November. I'm hoping to get this all done before the Thanksgiving holiday because I don't really want to be bothered with all this while there is SNOW and crap all over the ground.

Any idea what your SAE corrected numbers were? Also, were those runs in 3rd or 4th gear?
