5.7th Gen#2?

Been lurking around for a while now but I've been a member for a long time. Working on my second Maxima now. First one was totaled about 3 years ago.

Here's a pic of it in its glory...

Anyway on to the my current project!

Bought the Engine in September but haven't had much time to work on it except on weekends and only really started to take it seriously from about the beginning of October. Car has been garaged since July.

Stock engine was burning Oil badly... so I decided to jump in and replace it. I'm currently almost finished with it. I just received the Haltech from Surratt and will be installing it tomorrow along with the CAM Inverters. I also took the time to upgrade some suspension parts so those will be installed as well. MOOG Ball Joints, MOOG Sway Bar End Links, ES Control Arm Bushings, ES Torque Mounts, ES SubFrame Bushings, ES Sway Bar Bushings, Knightz Motor Mounts.

2011 Engine with about 6k miles is going in it.

Here it is on the stand.

I didn't take as many pictures as I'd like to have done but I'll post the ones I have up as I upload them.

Other mods include Cattman Headers with full exhaust, Place Racing Cold Air Intake, ARP Rod Bolts, D2 Coilovers (Probably installing those after winter), and Progress Rear Sway Bar.

After the ARP Bolt install and oil pan swap we mounted all of the accessories just like Surratt did but my stock belt was to short I had to get one 2 sizes bigger. I guess our Alternators are sitting different.

I'll update tomorrow after the suspension goes back on and get the wiring done for the CAM Inverters.

That's my old car in the first picture. My newer Maxima is 2003 Majestic Blue Titanium and Meridian Packaged Automatic. The one pictured is my totaled 2002 Grey Lustre SE. Those rims are G35 18"s.

The 03 which is getting the 7th Gen motor will be inheriting all of the bolt ons I was able to salvage from the the totaled car including the, fortunately, lip kit that was I damaged.

I can't believe I'm not done with this yet. Haltech is wired in. Engine harness is all in with the exception of the Cam Inverters and sensors. I think I misunderstood how to get these installed and working properly from Surratts thread.

I wired them using the 02 harness but after re-reading Surratts thread I believe I'm supposed to rewire them using the 09 plugs.

I got the fuel rail adapted in.

I have the Throttle Body spliced in now and my suspension is all back on all I need to do is wire up the Cams and re install my brakes and battery.

I did get a dual wideband Haltech kit to install along the Haltech ECU but I have to take the car to the muffler shop to get new bungs installed to get those installed.

Car isn't starting... :-/

Starter is working and turns over just fine but it never goes all the way.
Throttle body always goes through the open close procedure...

The only ones I'm sort of unsure are the cam sensors. And maybe the knock sensor since I left the 2011 sensors on and just wired that into the 03 harness.

Its probably the cam sensors. Check your wiring and your signal inverter wiring.

Check your engine codes, you are probably getting intake cam sensor codes.?

Ok I got the codes... Here's what I have:

P0123
P0223
P0740
P0745
P1800

Car has been off without a battery for over 2 Months. I did realize the first time I tried firing the car up after installing the battery that I didn't plug in the Throttle Body, so maybe P0123 is a result of that?

With a 06 Altima 3.5 you have the same cam sensors as the 02 Maxima motor.

So if you done the 09 Maxima style motor you would have to do the same cam sensor stuff we have to do.

If you do the 07+ Altima motor (no EVT) then you shoudl be able to have less headaches and use osiris to tune with. That would be a nice setup. (osiris only works on the newer ecu's like 04+)

Ok so I worked on the car again today and got most of the codes worked out but car won't turn over still.

I got no codes with my MATCO OBDII reader. So I asked my cousin for a newer scanner and I was able to get a code off of his reader.

C1131

What the hell is that?!

I also checked for signal to the injectors and I only get a couple of signals going to the injectors when I first crank it then signal stops to the injectors.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah its been down this whole time... tried little things here and there but never had enough time to really dig into it... then finally tried the cam trigger wheels and it almost started but the battery died...

Optima was replaced under warranty and came back Sunday night 9 PM and bam turned over on first try with new battery it did die though as it didn't hold an idle but 3 more starts and by the third it was holding its idle.

Hood, Brakes, O2 Sim, Wheels, and Trans Oil all back on.

Need to work on getting the center console and radio back on, then take it for a spin around the block.

How much different are the 7th Gen P/S pump and A/C compressor from the 5th Gen? Most of the P/S pumps are all the same on all Nissans...Have looked at a 09-14 a/c compressor yet but I wanna swap the entire engine assy in as IS!

I wasn't able to get ahold of a complete engine in a timely manner to do the swap (gonna get cold fast and garages are filled lol), but I checked photos of the accessories. They look 100% identical to me.

accessories are totally different, but its possible to make it work. you would have to use all 3 7th gen parts, ps, a/c and alt. the main issue would be hookign up the a/c lines. on my next swap ima mess with this some. i have all 3 parts to test with

There is no adapter between the compressor nor engine block on the 09+ the a/c compressor bolt straight to the block....The 09+ hose ends may need to be cut off and welded on the 02-03 hoses...just need some used parts to assemble and mock up and then have made...!
