Which engine
Here's where I'm at..
3.5 swap with 3.0 timing, most n/a bolt ons besides cams.
I didn't see a pot hole last night and it completely ripped off my lower oil pan and the oil pick up past the flange.. So, IMO the engine is fuked.
This is my DD and I want to get it up and running as easily as possible without going back to a 3.0. No full 3.5 swaps.. No time for that.
So what engine should I go with? The old DE? 07 Altima? 09 Max?
Has it been confirmed anywhere that the 3.0 inner cover will bolt up to the 07 alti or 09 max block/heads?

Your doing the 3.0 timing. What are you going to use to control the VVT? Will you be running the stock I30 fuel pump? Are you using the I30 ECU? Will you use the 3.0 injectors or 3.5 injectors. I am thinking of doing this swap and I am reading and reading and reading. If 3.0 timing then will you use the 4th gens IACV with a block off plate. Which TPS? Does the Altima have the drive by wire or will you use throttle cable?

DBW/TBW for shizzle.BUT, let's let the OP answer these

^^ yep what he said.
It'll be a 3.5/3.0 hybrid. <-that should answer 90% of your questions. If not, the stickys will answer 3.5/3.0 questions.
The car has a Walbro 255 and IACV adapter plate currently.

So this swap is basically ready to go, this will be interesting. Do you have any performance numbers before the Alti engine?
Are you using the PFTB, or how are/will you manipulate the 09 TB?
This is cool, like a hybrided hybrid.
I'm thinking the answer to the timing cover lies somewhere in Surra's swap thread. With that said, how will you drill º the EVT cams? Being the A32 is quite a bit lighter, I'd go for more power from 5500-6500 assuming stock rev limiter.

There's no real info on what's going on with bolting the 3.0 timing cover to the newer HR headed DEs. Just the pics of the 2 that have completed the swap.
I did see a 350z article where they had a HR head on a DE block with DE inner timing cover. The top hole in the head was offset on the HR head similar to the DE with the 3.0 inner cover. I forget which direction it was and of course can't find that pic but it would be interesting if they moved that top hole back to the vq30de/k position.
I've got the lower pan off an 02/03 block and both pans off a vq30 if the 07' is deeper like the 09'.
The 07' Alti and the 09' max have the same lower intake so I just ordered the 09' upper/gaskets. I'm already running a converted 09' TB that I redrilled to work on an 02/03 upper intake.
And part of the reason I went with the 07 Alti is it only has IVT and I'll just have to drill the intake cams. I've been doing a lot of comparisons of the lsa/overlap and commanded cam timing maps (if applicable) from the vq30de/k, other vq35/vq30 hybrids, gen 1 fwd/rwd vq35, and asked Surra what he's running timing wise since we have the same heads and cam profiles. I'll post up what I'm going with, It'll be relatively aggressive. Surra was suggesting I redrill the exhaust cams and I'm not 100% opposed. I'll just cross that bridge when I get to it.

Edit-
And for performance numbers before, I only have track numbers prior to the 75mm TB, 3" exhaust and DRs. I could only manage 2.29 60' on my 18s and ran 14.12 @ 102. 1st and only time at the track.

You know, this project is another reason for SurraTT to create a front-pulley timing wheel patterned after the 350Z or Altima flywheel, so you could use a Haltech or similar ECU, using all of your engines' timing parts as they came OEM, and not have to do anything except possibly change the oil pan for clearance.
Well, just a thought....
EDIT: never mind - I didn't think this through all the way. But I would like to have a front pulley timing wheel based on the 350Z flywheel pattern...

If I hadn't read I wouldn't have known what to ask. I don't want to turn this into bashing thread. I have been reading DE-K and 3.5 swap threads, have to comb through bs and people saying did this or that without saying what they physicaly did. I'm trying to learn and not ask dumb questions. I should have waited until he posted more.
Good info. Thank you.

I'm more or less decided on intake cam timing..
I talked with Surra about what he's running since it's the same heads and the static cam profiles. He said he starts off in the mid 40s advanced in the low/mid then tapers off advance to 14* at redline. I'm waiting for confirmation that he was running the same when his EVT was off.
I'm thinking 17* advanced, which coincidentally enough puts me right where a 95-99 VQ30 intake lobe center would be. So, I'm going to make a jig from the vq30's lobe center vs. dowel location and drill the new DE's intakes accordingly. I already have spacers from the old motor that I made 6 years ago maybe.
I'm hoping to have this wrapped up by MLK Day with all the pics an info to go with it.
