Vq30/35 destroked/hybrid, vq35, or 09+ swap?

Vq30/35 destroked/hybrid, vq35, or 09+ swap?

Just found out my motor is probably junk and have been weighing my options as to what I should do next.

A 5.7 gen swap would be the highest overall cost though after that I think there is little to purchase. They make great power and all but I am curious as to how well I could run it with my stock ecu and greddy e manage ultimate. I am also curious as to how well they take to boost...

Another option would be to just throw in another used vq35 with nothing more then possibly some arp rod bolts and that's really it. Lower cost then the 09+ swap all around but potential to get another oil burner aswell as not making the power the 09+ swap could do.

3rd and final option (unless others can come up with any) would be to build a hybrid vq35/vq30dek. Maybe something along the line of the vq30dek short block and vq35 heads and intake? Can that be done? What about vq30 crank and rods in a vq35 block? Will I be able to use vq35hr pistons if I were to do that? Would that even work at all?

I really like option 3 the most as I have access to 2 separate vq30dek motors for absolutely dirt cheap...

I'm also in love with the fact that a vq35 revs and can only imagine a destroked vq35... Mmmmmm sounds like music to my ears at 7500-8000 rpm?

What are all of your thoughts on this matter? I also apologize if this is in the wrong sub section as I wasn't 100% sure where to put it. Thanks all!

Just put in another 3.5.....next option is the ported 3.0 heads on 3.5 block. Why throw 3.0 internals in a 3.5 block??? I dont understand the concept of mix and matching internals when you can just use the 3.5 and there are plenty of them.

Trouble is that there aren't many 3.5's up here In Maine that I've found but 2 DEK's I can get for free...

Mixing and matching would give me a shorter stroke with the DEK rods and crank, allowing me to rev higher/faster with less issues. The VQ35 was never made to be revved out (though it seems to do it fairly well) the stroke is just too long for that. The DEK on the other hand has a little easier time doing this and I believe I get slightly stronger rods with the DEK vs the DE?

In a perfect world I'd like to have the ability to run VQ35 heads and cams, DEK crank and rods, VQ35 block, VQ35HR head gaskets and pistons, and VQ35 Intake manifold.

Is that a possible combination?

Wouldn't bother with destroking, seems silly.

For stock ECU+e-Ultimate I would get a regular 3.5, not an 09.

09 Engines are no stronger than the regular DE engines. Use the money you saved for some forged pistons and rods.

Or get the dek swap over your 3.5 cams and call it a day. Build you up a 3.5 on the side and later throw it in your car. Having too much stuff going on. never leads to a good outcome

He's got a 03 Maxima. a 3.0 will NOT work in a 02+ Maxima.

He could always go the route of an 07+ altima motor with the EU. That way he still benefits from the improvements on the top end of the engine, namely the heads, without spending big bucks on a standalone to control EVT.

I would like the go with a VQ that skirts the oil burning issues as my last motor was just that; An oil burner.

I think It's safe to assume the 07+ Altima motor would have fixed the issue?

It's too bad there aren't any decent 3.5's up in my neck of the woods...

Correct in your situation a 07+ altima motor will be great for N/a you do not need stronger internals unless you are boosted and really turn up the psi

so at that point your cost would be 07+altima vq and some related swap parts. you already have tuning in place.

not much more $ or work then just a older vq replacement.

get a motor shipped to you

even with the money saved he would not have enough for forged internals.

09 Maxima 3.5s are floating around for about 1500, the 07 altimas 3.5s are around $800. In the case of an NA car if i could i would definitely get the 7th gens motor if i could scrap up the pennies.

If my plans all go well the car will only be N/A for a year maybe less once the motor is in. I've got plans to turbo it, hence buying E manage ultimate rather then a simple AFC as well as buying 4th Gen "shorty" headers rather then OBX or the like.

I really would like to go boosted as soon as possible with the car.

If I go with just any older VQ35 how far can I push the motor with just rod bolts?
What about those 07 Altima motors? - turbo speaking

If u wanna boost it on a budget u should try those Godspeed rods they about 300,and acl race bearings the,new piston rings, arp main and head bolts, and new head gasket, and some revup cams and springs, should also throw in a revup oil pump should be able to hold 500-550 on stock pistons,

Stock pistions will really hold that much? I couldn't seem to find the godspeed rods? Did you mean CX Racing rods?
