Attenuation Wire On Aftermarket Headunit
Attenuation Wire On Aftermarket Headunit
Does anyone know how to activate the attenuation wire on an aftermarket headunit?? Is this wire ground activated or do I need to send power to it?? Thanks for the help in advance.
BTW I have a Sony headunit if this wire is brand specific.

If you know another name for it, I should be able to help you out.
its the light blue wire on the sony..i belive its for a cellphone?..so your stereo quiets instantly when it rings. Just take a volt meter to it..im 90% sure you hafta send a Positive 12v to it. But..if it shows 12V at the wire...you gotta put a negative. BUT.since that wire is uncapped/un-protected at the harness..i doubt its a live 12v. Cuz ive left that wire dangling 100's of times.

Thanks for everyone's replies. chinaonnitrous1 is correct, in that I'm talking about the "Cell Phone Mute" wire which is listed as the attenuation wire in the install instructions. It is the sky blue wire with NO white stripe through it. Anyone else have a clue as to how to activate it? Thanks.
hey, that wire on your sony is designed to come from a cell phone kit. I guess if you wanted you could hook it up to a seperate switch to use as a mute button. Most of todays cell phone car kits do not even have a radio mute output. If you are lucky and your cell kit has a mute output you can just simply hook it up to the sony wire in question. This wire goes low to mute the radio.
In most cases it is just as easy to grab the volume control as it is to find the new mute switch mounted in the car if you are looking into the manual switch route.
Hope this helps.
