To Sony or not to Sony ???????????

I have a 1993 Nissan Maxima SE with the bose system and I want to replace the entire system but it seems like everytime I use the word Sony headunit people act like Im cursing. I was thinking of getting the Sony Cdx-m610 headunit I am going with a rockford component set and two rockford 3way 6x9s and I am going to amp the components and 6x9s with the Rockford 500x amp. I am really a fan of Pioneer or Sony headunits which should I go with and if not the Sony somebody please tell me why not.

Get the one you want. If it doesn't work, take it back and exchange it for your 2nd choice. Really, choosing a headunit is like choosing the best orange in a 6 foot pile of oranges. The differences between most of the oranges will be minor.

DONT BUY Sony!! i replace their units atleast twice a day at my shop. Alot of their "lower end, $150-200 range" units have faulty disc eject and feed mechanisms. People wind up goin with Pioneer or Kenwood and never have problmes after that.

In my opinion outside of thier upper end stuff Sony is more concerned with gadgets and looking cool than sounding good. If you want Sony than get it but make sure it has the quality to meet your needs. when i worked at Circut City I noticed Alpine had a really good stereo in almost every price range possible. if you go off just audio Quality you'l see Alpine and some other companies really think Sound first everything else second.

Look around check whats out there, and if in the end you like the Sony stuff, get it cause when youre on the road you only answer to yourself.

I am an Alpine man by trade, but I've had decks by other mans like Sony, Kenwood, Eclipse. Most seem to be respectable and is all a matter of taste and features. I've had Alpine in my last 2 cars, but I'm going with a high end Sony this time mostly for the looks. The other features are pretty standard and as long as you take care of it and install it with skill, you should have no problems. I find the Pioneer ***** and faces to be damn cheap plastic and easy to break though, screen saver or not, cheap is cheap.

Just so that we all understand correctly your basing your purchase on apperance rather than quality??

If all else winds up being equal, then yes. What else are you going to decide based on other than looks and price if everything you like is equal in quality. Most that are in the same price range will have similar quality build materials and workmanship, well, maybe not JVC, but that's a different rant.

I've listened to hundreds of decks and in the 200-300 range most play about the same, the only differences come in once you go elite audio level. If it plays fine, the warranty is good, and it looks tight in your ride, go for it.

I understand what you are saying, but I am not strictly regarding sound quality, I am also speaking of build quality.Sonys have been notorious for problems. Even if they were offering the best SQ, what would be the point if it is not functioning properly?
