WOW what a difference...

Yesterday I finaly got my second Alum15x sub. before installing it I decided to play with the different ways I could have the sub facing. Usualy I just have them facing the back of the car, but cince driveway test didn't show a big difference in loudness, I installed the subs firing through the ski hole. After a whole day of driving around I was extremely dissapointed. the two subs facing the front of the car, were barely louded then 1 sub facing the rear. This morning I switched them around, and the differece was amazing. If you go by the theory of doubling the cone area, and the power will increase SPL by 3db each, you could say that facing the subs toward the back of the trunk increases slp by 6db!!! Everyone trying to decide which way to face their box should read this article:

http://www.installer.com/tech/aiming.html

It was completel;y right. When I was testing the subs in the driveway, I had my trunk open, and thus the bass was as loud when the speakers faced the front as when they faced the back. But when you are driving the bass dropps dramaticaly.

cliff notes:

in Maximas face subs toward the rear of car, as far back in the trunk as they go.

Oh, yeah, I have a sealed box, so people with ported need to take more things into account, like the location of the port.

i have to disagree...gank out the rear deck, fire the subs thru there, and seal them off from the trunk.

Not everyone wants to put that much work in though for some sub action. Those 15s are mighty sizeable. I would agree that rear firing is better for most rides that I've been in. My old hatchback was up firing and that was nice, even when I had the ghetto Blaus back there

I would love to do that, but I have no clue where to begin. Initially I planned on facing the subs up, but the box is too damn big, and it makes the rear deck rattle.
