sound cuts out at high volume...
Never had this happen with the same equipment in my old RX7. So now my 99 SE has my Orion 600 Watt bridged amp with a sealed Polk Dx10 sub (600 watts max), and my Pioneer 400 Watt amp w/ 2 sets of 6.5" Rockfords (100 watts max each).
I have a 4 guage power wire w/ 80 amp fuse going into a dist. block w/ 2 40 amp fuses and 2 8-guage power wires into the amps. One power wire has a stinger .5 Farad cap inline to the Orion amp. I have good short 8-guage ground wires and 16 and 14 guage speaker wires for the speakers and the sub, respectively.
Everything works great until I turn the volume up to around 2/3. At that point the sound starts cutting out (no sound whatsoever) and coming back, or just cuts out completely until I turn the volume back down.
So what could be causing the system to cut out like this? Too much power, not enough current?
There are no fuses blown, just no sound at high volume.
Thanks,
Justin

Do the amps go into protection when it happens?
If so may be insufficient wiring to the back for all u have. A friend of mine had a digital Cadence amp that pushed like 1100 watts rms, he didnt have sufficient power and it would do like you're describing.

dunno...
I'll have to reproduce the problem and jump out & look at the amps' protection lights...
So you're thinking maybe the 4 guage into a distribution block in the trunk may not be big enough to run 500 watts RMS/ 1000 Max?
hmmm...

My Soundstream amp does the same thing, but not as often or as consistently as it sounds like yours does. Therefore, I just let it come back. I blame mine on some protection circuit somewhere in the Amp.
Perhaps it is overheating, as Sly suggested. Is the amp less vented and cooled now than it was in the other car? Perhaps in the trunk now, where it was air conditioned in the RX7?
Also... 1000 watts total is a LOT for any stock electrical system, and the Orion is probably able to suck a whole lotta juice from the car. Any light dimming or anything at night?
Also, try posting your q. to Rec.audio.car. Lots of very knowledgeable people there, who know much more than the likes of me.

i had a similiar problem
Check your system for a short somewhere, i don't think it's insufficient wiring.
