Is a RF 100a2 amp enough to push...

Is a RF 100a2 amp enough to push a single RF 12" XLC sub (older mid-line, not the "Z" series)?

I bought the amp and want to run fronts off of it eventually, but for now i want to use it to power my sub. Once I actually GET front speakers (may be a while- my max got KEYED Saturday) I will use this on the fronts and an older RF Punch 200ix for the sub. 1MAX2NV said that he ran a 10W6 off of it just fine, so I ASSUME that I can run a SVC 12" off of it, if he could run the 10" DVC w/ a heavier magnet sdtructure.

It is an older RF amp, so the ratings are a bit low (not like the new OVER-ratings) and it is rated @ 25w x 2 @ 4 ohms, 100w x 1 @ 2 ohms. It is a 4 ohm SVC sub, so I am assuming that I will get at least 100w @ 2 ohms out of it. Can I get decent "punchy" bass in a sealed box w/ 100 watts?

not really it will run it but thats not enough power for the sub you need something more powerful..

Actually, I hooked it up last night to see how it sonded, and while it is not going to win competetions, for what i use it for, it is enough for now. Most of my listening is during commuting, which means talk radio, traffic and weather reports, and station-surfing to find decent songs. I mainly listen to CDs on the way to the gym and on trips. I was pleasantly suprised at how good it sounded w/ only 100 watts. I did not expect it to sound that good, but it is enough to get me by until I get some front stage and hand this amp off to the highs, using my Punch 200ix for the sub.

correct me if im wrong

but that is impossible. im fairly certain you can not take a four ohm amp and hook it up to one four ohm svc sub and see a two ohm load at the sub. if you had two 4ohm subs then you could run them parrallel and see a two ohm load. but you are only running one.you can however bridge the amp, assuming it is bridgeable. your probably seeing around 50 watts at the sub. take a dmm set the dial to the ohm's symbol preferably a low ohm setting probably 20 and touch the terminals of the speaker while hooked up to the amp and you will see what load you are pushing

You said to correct you if you were wrong, and I am going to have to correct you. If you bridge the amp, each SIDE of the amp sees 2 ohms (1/2 of the total load of 4 ohms), so the amp is effectively running at 2 ohms.

Please, for the sake of your equipment, ASK before hooking ANYTHING up. The load you describe (2 4 ohm subs in parallel) would be a load of 2 ohms, which is halved when the amp is bridged (1 ohm), thus shorting or overheating many amps on the market today.
