Need help with purchase !!! PLEASE !!!

I am looking to get a new amp/sub set up in my Max...I had two Alpine Type R's with a JL 500/1 amp...I want something a little less bass and sound cleaner...I found this Alpine amp, MRD-M300 V12 AccuClass-D Mono Amplifier - 300 watts RMS and 600 watts peak....the Type R's say that they are 300 watts RMS and 1000 peak, someone at Circuit City told me that it is 300 per voice coil, and a guy at another store told me that they are 150 per VC...Which one is it , and will this amp power the 1 Type R 12 inch sub ?? Somebody pleae help !!!

Why not keep the JL amp and just drive the one Alpine sub in a sealed enclosure with the voice coils wired in parallel. Nice tight bass that will hit really low. The JL amp is probably better than the Alpine and I don't think it will have a problem driving a 2 Ohm load.

well, I sold the JL amp and 2 subs to my brother...I wanted something cheaper, and less bass....The 500/1 pounded my 2 12's. I think its too much for 1 12 .... The ALpine amp is a really good amp, but I was jsut wondering about the watts, of the Dual Voice Coil subs

Don't get all caught up in the power rating of subs. The rating system that they use is pure BS anyway. If the amp is rated at 300W at 4 Ohm it will be slightly less than double that at 2 Ohm. Meaning that the amp will be putting out something like 600 W RMS total or 300 W RMS per voice coil. Should sound really good.

well ,does that mean that when the subs say 300 watts RMS, that it is 300 per voice coil ?? And how would I get 1 sub to run a 2 ohm load ??

If you wire two 4 Ohm voice coils in parallel you will get a 2 Ohm load.
