Custom Deck Install

Hey,

This is my first post in a looooong time. I previously had a name on these boards, but I forgot the password, and it was registered to a different email address so it looks like I'm starting over at the org

Anyway, I am redoing my stereo system. I already purchased and installed a new alpine HU and a 12 disc changer in the console. Also, I replaced the front speakers with some new infinity 6.5"s. So it's time to add a little bit of bass. I have a brand new JL Audio 500/1 amp, and now it's time to decide on the sub.

I am going to be installing this sub in rear deck with the box hanging down into the trunk, however the actual subwoofer will be sealed off from the trunk. It is going to be about a half inch above the deck and slightly angled towards the rear (maybe 10-15 degrees). I am leaning towards a 10" JL w7. Any suggestions or advice on this setup?

Also, if anyone in the south florida area want to assist in the install, there's free beer (as much as you can drink ) (Sorry, don't really have the cash flow to pay anyone). Thanks in advance for the advice.

Hanging Sub

I was thinking about doing the same thing in my car. I am currently debating the setup due to the excess weight the box and sub will put on the rear deck. I've tried to find information on how that might effect it. I'm also concerned with how suspending the box might cause excess rattles in the rear deck and window area. Let me know how your install goes, and post some pics if you got them.

Re: Hanging Sub

Is this going to be a sealed box? The guys at my shop say they have had people come in with 500/1 and W7s saying that the amp didn't have enough to drive the sub in a sealed box. If that's what you're going for, check out the 1000/1 or the W6.

Thanks, I will definetly look into this, and possibly get one of those 750 alpine V12's or something, I've had good luck with them in the past. I am not going to switch subs, I am very decided on that aspect...

In respect to Tall's comment, I was planning on supporting the box from inside the trunk, kind of have a tower comming from the floor to support the box and seal the bottom to prevent sound from leaking into the trunk, and keep it bouncing off the rear windshield and then into the cabin of the car. I was going to put sound deadening material all over the rear deck, then cover it back up with a nice carpeted piece of wood...Simple yet effective.

Let me know what you think. Thanks.
