non-bose to bose possible?

hi. i was wondering if you can upgrade your car to bose system. see when i bought my car i didn't have money to put in a bose (because the dealer said it had to be ordered with leather seat), but now i think i can afford one. is there any way i can upgrade to bose from my non-bose? my car's 2k2 Maxima SE.

p.s. also the heated outside mirrors? i can't see anything on a rainy night!!

If you want to upgrade your system, I would recommend getting aftermarket, and not Bose. I know lots of others will chime in to the same effect.

Yep, you will spend way too much money for a mediocre sounding system. Better off going aftermarket.

BTW heated outside mirrors rock. Not sure how you can upgrade to them though.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the speakers in the Bose system are amplified independently by a piggybacked amp on each speaker. The headunit itself is not amplified. Therefore in order to convert from a Non-Bose to Bose system, you would need to replace the headunit and all four speakers plus add the Bose Subwoofer in the rear deck. Sounds to me like a pain in the A$$. It's much easier to buy a quality headunit (aftermarket) like an Eclipse, Nacamichi, or Alpine and keep the speakers you have for now. Then when you're ready to step up one more level, you can add a sub or change the door speakers. Its up to you though.

It can be done, but at a very expensive cost. The master wiring harness in the car is different between the Bose and non-Bose systems. That means that you'd have to buy harnesses to go from the radio to the amp (in the trunk), and then from the amp to the sub (in the trunk), and also from the amp to each door. You'd obviously have to buy the HU, amp, sub, and 4 door speakers. Then, even if you were crazy enough to do that, you'd still have to drill holes in the front doors to get the wiring into them. Nissan used a fixed connector-based harness on the front doors, so running an additional set of wires (or even 1) through the factory wiring is virtually impossible.

Now, if you're gonna spend ALL that money, go aftermarket. There's definitely a better system out there than the Bose, especially for the 2002. I hate the system (other than the 6 disc in-dash changer) because it fails to live up to the Bose name. For the easy $1000-2000+ you'd spend on a Bose, get a real system that will produce a much better sound than Bose ever would.

man, it's that complicated? i have a free bose system waiting for me to install into my 2k non bose.... so what actually do i have to buy?

what if i have aftermarket amp and speakers already...and just installed the bose hu? would that be easier? then doing the whole bose?

Same question on an 06

This thread has been inactive for awhile, but I'm wondering if the same thing is possible on an '06 Max? I am looking to add the six disc bose cd changer for the time being and will eventually upgrade to a carputer. I also do not have a "sat" control on my current setup to use with a PAC adaptor.

I would like to keep the functionality of the stock screen and steering wheel controls intact and am wondering if I could purchase a dash bose unit off of ebay and integrate it into my non-bose factory setup. I don't know if i want to shell out a bunch of money for a head unit when I'm going to get a carputer that will do everything I need.

Does anyone know if this is possible?
