Need help with power cable and fitment on amp...

I need your guys help in solving this problem. I have a 2 gauge power cable and a kicker 800.4 amp. The problem is, the terminal that the 2 gauge is placed in will not fit the little slit on the amp. I can't fit the terminal in the amp for power. Is there another way around this?

Many thanx for your answer(s).

what you need is a "distribution block" which basically accepts the larger wire, in your case 2 guage, and then breaks it down into smaller wire, either 4 or 8 guage....

So.. wouldn't the 4 or 8 gauge wire be too small, power wise for a big amp? I wanted the 2 gauge power but somehow make it smaller, using the distribution block would make the thing fit, but would it also give less power to the amp since it is a smaller gauge?

No you want to go with the largest wire execpted by the amp...It seems it don't take 2 from waht your saying so try 4-8 dependinng on the amp it will take one.

Most high power amps are only meant to accept 8 gauge or less. Like mentioned before, run it to a distrubution block where it splits into 8 gauge hookups. You still get the full power because the 8 gauge is such a short run, much current isn't really lost.

Oh I see, so I guess I don't need to hook it up with more than one 8 gauge wire. I guess I will go that route.

Many Many thanx to all who responded. The actual step was much more complicated than what I had in my mind.

I was researching for some cheap distribution blocks and I came on this when I did a search.....

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ribution+block

It's to a past site that I found saying that instead of using a distribution block I could strip a higer gauge wire and take as many of the copper strands that would fit an 8 gauge terminal, then wrap the rest of the copper wire up and...viola.

Has anyone tried this and has succeeded in doing so?

id imagine that is a decent alternative, but here is what i would do, BUY THE DISTRO AND TAKE THE 2GUAGE DOWN INTO 4/8 GUAGE AND THEN INTO THE AMP... TRUST ME YOU WILL BE FINE...

lol, be ghetto. i don't think a distro block, is necesary. if you do a clean job with the trimming down the gauge of the wire, you can't even tell. if it was me, i'd go ahead and save the extra cash and trim it, but that's just my opinion.
