Need Help Buying An Amp, Please?

Here is the setup.

I have 4 6 1/2" Infinity Kappa 63.5i (max 225W)

2 6"x9" Infinity Kappa 693.5i (max 110w)

10 inch sub (max 200w)

I hope to power the two front speakers with my receiver. This means I need an amp to power the two 6 1/2" speakers, 2 6"x9" speakers and the sub. I just want one amp to do this. Any suggestions on what amp to purchase? I would appreciate all help.

If I understand you correctly, you will have 4 6.5 inch speakers up front, 3 6x9's in the rear, and 1 sub. If I were you, I would use the head unit to power the rear 6x9s (rear fill) then buy a good 5 channel amp. There are several out there. I have used the Orion CS500.5 and it worked great. JL, MTX, Memphis, Alpine, DEI, Phoenix Gold, Soundstream, Crossfire and some others all make good 5 channel amps as well. For yor aplication (since your sub can't handle that much power and you want the same output from the other 4 channels), I would look at Orion or Alpine.

You'll be looking at two amps instead of one, buddy. He is right for using the head unit for rear fill( but then you will have to adjust the rest of your system to keep pace with your rear deck to maintain decent acoustics), but you'll will lose some serious cash to an amp that will deliver at least 200w to your sub, and an additional 200w x 4 ch to the front speakers and it won't overheat and have signal degregation.................

Or at least I hadn't came across one that does.......

Amps
Sorry guys, shouls have been more specific.

I have two 6 1/2" up front and 2 in the rear. I also have the TWO 6"x9" speakers in the rear and the sub in the rear.

That is 5 (including sub) in the rear and 2 in the front.

Say I minus the sub. I want the receiver to power the fronts (2 6 1/2") What kind of amp should I buy?

Thanks guys.

I would definately ditch the additional 6x9s..

There amps out there that will work though, A/D/S/ makes a 50x8 that might work..

I agree, ditch the 6x9s and get a good 5 channel to power everything else. If you really want to use the 6x9s maybe the 8 channel that TL mentioned or a 6 channel. One output for each of the 6.5s, one for the sub, and then one for the parallel combo of the 6x9s.

Guys,

I want the receiver to power the front two speakers. It is 50wx4. should I let it power the 4 6 1/2" speakers and buy and amp for the 2 6"x9" and the sub?

So, you have 6 1/2? Good. That's what I have in mine. I have a 400 x 2ch amp pushing the two speakers up front. You could do the same for the rear deck, so a good 800w amp will do the trick. However, you'll need a 4 ch amp to deliver 200 watts to each speaker. And I hope you have a way to put those speakers on a crossover to adjust for imaging.

All manufacturers rate their decks in Peak, not RMS values. That deck is probably closer to 20x4 clean RMS watts..

If you let the deck power the fronts & rears, and then amp 2 6x9's in the rear, it's going to sound awful.

For what it's worth, many sound quality competitors remove their rear speakers alltogether.. The idea is to create an environment like a concert hall, will all the sound coming from the "stage" up front.

IMHO, get a good 50w(RMS)x4 amp for the 6.5's, and another amp for the sub.

Or a single 4 channel will work in this system. Definitely loose at least one pair of the rear speakers. 2 speakers in back are two to many. If I were looking to do a system on a budget I would amp the front speakers and sub. Depending on how tight the budget is either a 4 channel with the rear channels bridged to the sub or a 2 channel for the front and a mono amp for the sub. Like someone else said, headunits have horrble amps. 10-12 X 4 clean watts is typical. The 50 X 4 is most likely a max rating at probably 10% THD, not an RMS rating.
