mutlimedia system in the car

I'm beating myself to death over this issue.
I really want to have dvd, lcd, tv, mp3 in my car, but the other side of me keep on telling myself its just a big waste of money. cuz 99% of the time i'm in the car, i'm driving. so there is really no need for that. but the idea of having it in the car just sounds so COOL.
how many of you that actually have a multimedia system in your car feel its worth the money??
thx

I feel it aint "technically" worth the money. But I do it cause I love it and I take trips every month or so to long distances.

To do it right, it will cost at least 3gs to get started. It is getting cheaper, but still expensive.

I feel the same way it is very expensive but it is very cool I just got a very big settlement from an injury so I decided to do it and now that its done I feel it was worth it ( 911 kenwood, PS2 , 2 JL W6, and headrest screens)

you can put a good audio video system in your car without spending a whole lot of money and it will sound good. This is what I have in my Max:Sony CDX700 head unit w/ built in 7 band equalizer $200, Sony PS2 $200, 2 - 12" MTX Thunder 4000 subs in a sealed box $450, Bazooka EL-1500 600x1 watt Mono Amp running the 2 subs $200, MTX Thunder 4122 200x2 watt amp running the 4-6.5" speakers $170, 6.5" sony explode 3-way in the rear deck $70, Jensen 6.5" 3-way speakers in the front door panels $40, Jensen tweeters running off of the deck, last but not least the thing that gets the how in the world question and that is the video screen. Let me explain the screen is actually a PS2/Gamecube Mobile Monitor that has been taken out of its original housing and mounted behind the dashboard where the stereo used to be (stereo below it in the space that used to have a pocket)covered by plexiglass mobile monitor cost $150 parts to mount it including plexiglass $30. All of the audio/video installation was done by myself and no one else. check out a few pictures at <http/url>http://photos.yahoo.com/donpctek<url/>

MaximaFever, how did you connect your PS2. Did you use a inverter. Where did you tap the inverter into.

I did use an inverter the kind that can be hardwired directly to the battery to keep the 12volt power plug free for other items. Just take the positive cable through the fire wall to the battery and a good place for the ground is behind the kickpanel there is some screws that will give a good ground. For the sound I used a FM Modulator which can be found at Best Buy and other stores for about $50 it is plugged into the antenna socket on the HU. Best place to place the Playstation is under the passenger seat if it doesn't have power seat motor, also you should place the inverter underneath the drivers seat and run the wires underneath the carpet so that they wont get moved when the power seat is moved or moved around by peoples feet. Trust me I replaced many fuses from the wires touching each other. I would suggest using at least 8gauge wire and fuse it at the battery just like you would your amps. Protection is the most important thing to keep from replacing expensive components.
Just a little side note if you are into more of the DVD part of the Playstation 2 rather than the games than there is a better option. At Walmart they are selling the new Phillips DVD player that is only $138 and it is small to fit under the seat even the drivers seat and instead of a drawer that slides out to load the cd it has a slot just like on most HU and it plays just about every format of cd including MP3 files on cd. Walmart is the only place that I have seen it.

my theory

I'm about to hook up my car with TV with DVD, VCD, blah blah blah player. my theory is why listen to music when u can listen "AND" watch them!!!!

Think about it.... I have a bunch of mpg music videos.. I'll just convert them to VCD and watch/listen at the same time. No more CD or mp3.. well not as much.. hehe

oh yeah.. i est my cost for the setup and it won't cost much at all. I have everything planned and wire setup thought out. I exp it to cost me under $700 total. I don't like screen that come out cause i feel they are tacky. I plan on mounting it flush in the double din unit area.

yes im also interested in getting some tv and ps2 action up in my car. I am looking at 2 units as of right now the Clarion VRX925VD and the Kenwood KVT911DVD. The only thing i dont like about the Kenwood is that it doesnt play mp3s like the clarion does and it doesnt have FM/AM i dont think...correct me if im wrong. Everything else is nice about it. Any suggestions?

I was refering to this external player. I don't like units that have a flip out screen. I rather have everything flush mounted for the stock look cause I do live in a city and has had my previous car stolen..
