In most cases for most cars, you would have to drill through it. If you do do that, be careful where you do it. Don't want to drill into something else accidently.

Drill a small pilot hole first. This will help: A. Guide your larger drill bit through the wall and B. Not be as loud if it is in the wrong place. Also, be sure you use a firewall grommet. This will keep out water and make sure that your wire dosen't eventually get chewed up by the hole it is running through. Good Luck...it is a PITA.

wow!! you actually have to drill??? on the 3rd gens, you go through the grommet by cutting a small hole in the rubber and leading the cable in.

Pics of running 4 ga wire thru 2K1 firewall

Here's some pics i took from when I ran 4 guage wire thru the firewall of my 2K1 Max. FYI, I have an automatic so I don't know how this will work if you have a stick...

Find diamond shaped piece of firewall liner up under the drivers side dash to the left of the brake pedal. Pull it back to expose the metal of the firewall. Drill a small (3/16") hole thru firewall.

Notice the pilot comes out in the engine side in a location away from anything important.

Pics of running 4 ga wire thru 2K1 firewall (cont'd)

I bought a rubber bushing at my local ACE Hardware for about a buck. I brought a small piece of 4 guage wire with me to make sure it had the right inside diameter to give it a snug (i.e waterproof) fit.

The bushing required a 7/8" hole thru the firewall so I used a 7/8" holesaw.

Almost done...

Popped the bushing in the hole and I was ready to run the wire!

Hope this helps!
