I was thinking and just realized that I might have have bought a 8ohm sub. Can I use just one 8ohm sub or is it bad ? It's a Kicker C10 VR and I'm using a JBL 300.1 amp to push it.

 

yes, simply put you can, is this a single or dual voicecoil, because you should be able to halve that the 4 ohms. howvwer if not i have no idea how your amp will react to that 8 ohm load, you may overwork it.... check the spec sheet of your sub, there should be one on kicker's website.

 

What's the point of having 8ohm subs?

 

8Ohm speakers are used mostly in home stereo applications. The reason that they have them for cars is you can wire them up into a lower resistance (ie: 2 - 8 ohm subs wiried for a 4 ohm load). I don't think that you running an 8 ohm sub will cause a problem, you amp actually works less hard for the higher resistance. However, you may not get the bass that you would out of a 4 ohm speaker. If it is dual voice coil, you may be able to wire it to a 4 ohm load.

 

Well, the amp is only going to push out about 75 watts, don't be too surprised if you get a very weak output!

 

I'm selling it on Ebay. Any suggestions? JL Audio W0 or a Kicker C10D VR dual voice coil.
