Is the Alpine CDA-7894 a good buy?

My Bose died this morning. I've been looking for an excuse to get rid of it anyway. I wrote down a while back a list of stereo upgrades I wanted and had the Alpine 7894 at the top. I can get it for around $320 shipped which seems to be a descent price for a good deck. I just wanted pro/cons from you guys...

Also, I don't really want to keep the Bose speakers since the Alpine seems to have a good amp inside the deck. I need a set of components for the front and mid-bass 6.5s for the back that I can buy on a budget but has descent SQ. I want to buy some Boston Pro series but it's just a little pricey at $300 for just the components, especially since I'm forced to buy the deck. Thanks...

I'm in the same boat as you are. I have the 7894 and love it. Very versatile. now I have to figure a few things out, like how to get it to control my sub.

Check some of my threads for info/feedback on components/amps to go with it. I'm asking the questions you might want answered.

Hope to help

I'm going to go ahead and pick up the 7894. I was looking on Ebay for components, and Diamond components are cheaper than the Boston Acoustics. For the BA Pro series, it's around $300 for the 6.5" components. For the DA M661 M6 components, it's only $200. And for the S600s, it's only $300. I had an entire MB Quart setup in my CRX for a long time and love the way it sounds. I still have the components and rear fill but it's all 5.25". Would it be possible to just buy DA 6.5" mid bass drivers and use the crossover/tweeters from my MB Quart? That would be a low cost/descent souding solution... What do you guys think?

About amps... I've already decided to go with JL 300/4 and 500/1 when I'm ready to do the whole system right...

I have had that unit for a minute now and i wouldn't trade should enjoy it. If you've never had an Alpine deck,
give it some time to learn all the functions, menus and sub menus.

Blaxxima, how come you cant controll the subs it has a deticated sib out, are you going direct to sub from the sub out?

I ran RCAs from the sub connection in the back of the Alpine to my Clarion amp which connects to my sub. Not sure why I can't directly control my subs (by controlling the "subwoofer" volume by pushing in the volume dial).

Maybe I installed it wrong?

This HU rocks! I love it. I'm looking for speakers also. I bought a sub already.

I hope to get this HU soon.

For those of you who have this HU, does the antenna go up when you cut the power on for any function or does it only go up when on radio?

Thanks.
