Polk EX vs. Alpine Type R

I need opinions on these two speakers. I'm trying to decide which component sets I'm going to buy my Maxima for Christmas. On a side note, do you think it is worth splurging and going with Diamond Audio M3 or M6's? Any educated and experienced opinions are appreciated. Thanks.

Pearl96max can get you the Diamonds for a better price than the other two brands you mentioned.

Don gave me a quote on some M3's, but they were higher than online prices for Polk EX's or Alpine Type R's. I understand that they may be better speakers, but I'm on a college budget and it may not be worth the subtle differences in sound. I'm starting to lean towards the Polks, but DA is not out of the picture.

Sound is all perception anyway. I may think Kraco's sound incredible, while other may think they are horrible. I remember years ago when Boston's were what everyone were talking about and they were expensive. I absolutely hated them and still do to this day unless your buying the $1000+ Boston components, but who wants to spend that much on car speakers. Just listen to all of them and that will sway you towards the ones you want. Try finding a shop that has all 3 or at least 2 of the 3.

Diamond Audio: I listened to the Diamond Audio Components today at Traffic Jams in Buford, GA. I was very impressed. I listened to the 3, 6, and Hex Series. They all sounded great. I don't know if the 6 was worth the extra money from the 3; and the hex series were too much money for a system like mine (non competition). After listening, I'm almost certain that I'm going to go with Diamond Audio components. On a side note, the guys at Traffic Jams seem really knowledgable about car stereo. Don may have another customer coming soon...
