New cooling idea with false floor.

There is a fairly large drain hole at the bottom of the spare tire well. I could make it alittle bigger and use a small cooling fan to suck in fresh air from the bottom of the car. Then I could just use one fan on the flase floor to exhaust the warm air up into the trunk area. What does everyone think of this idea? One problem I can see is that outside air is pretty dirty. Maybe I can put some sort of filter element before the fan?

i'd be a bit concerned with everything you would kick up into the hole / fan - such as all rocks and dirt , etc. any filter would get pretty dirty fast.

The only problems I can think of are water/moisture and sucking in exuast fumes when at idle

Would be if you put a filter screen on the front to keep the rocks from coming up.

I dont think moisture is an issue since the air in the trunk and outside about the same. As far as water being picked up, dont know there, cant say for sure but dont think the fan or that area of the spare tire well gets soaked heavily under rain.

Why do you need that at all? I don't have any "cooling" in my floor and I don't think carlos does either, works fine. I even have the amps covered so everything is flat carpet in the trunk and no overheating

Are you saying the top of your amps are covered? ie, you put a piece a board or plexiglass on top of the amp's heatsink. Have you felt the heatsink of your amp after some playing time during a hot summer day? You can't even touch it that's how hot it gets.

They are covered by carpet covered panels. (not all the time) Yeah, I've felt them, pretty steamy, but not crazy hot and they're soundstreams, those things get hotter than most. I'm just sayin, if you don't cover them then you should have even less problem than I do, which is none thus far

I do agree with you if they are not covered at all times, then cooling fans are not needed. But mine will be covered with a solid piece of plexigass at all times, so I need to persuit some sort of cooling for the amps.

Better idea, liquid nitrogen. Now we're talkin cold. A regular fan should be fine, or a couple computer case fans, might drop it a few degrees. Do your amps have internal fans?

Well how about running the fan(s) so they DRAW air from the trunk and vent it outside the hole? But I would maybe make a tube that made the air vent towards the back to protect the fan and to reduce the moisture etc.. from entering the trunk.

Hell if you just made a vent w/o the fan, I bet when driving it would suck alot of the hot air out. But dunno about when at shows/idling etc.

I don't have liquid nitrogen, but I do have nitrous oxide bottle in the trunk Maybe another purge kit on a timer to cool the amps. No internal fans on the amps.

sounds a lil risky Tony. Godforbid you hit a huge puddle and that fans draw water in, your done for!!

Id either go with that horizontal fan you posted or mount some fans directly to your amps heatsinks like i always do.

What about routing a larger diameter tube from the "fan in the hole" in the trunk and run it to the top of the driver's side rear bumper. This way, the fan can suck in the air from the tube, and the tube is pulling in air that is clean and dry, since no dirt or water travels to the top of the bumper. I am going to try something like this because my amp keeps overheating in the summer. The bass will kick on and off every 5-10 minutes when sitting in stand still traffic. Annoying as hell.....
