4 Channel Amp

Alright guys, need a little advice. I need suggestions on what I should get for an Amp to power my Kicker Components in the front and Clarion coaxs in the rear. Currently I have them comming of a 50X4 Kenwood Excelon headunit. I need some more ummmph in them, any suggestions?

You got alot of choices. The more power, the more money. I think an amp with 50WX4 rms @ 4 ohm will do. 50WX4 rms is measured usually at 12V but once your car is running, you get more power. For a budget amp, you could go with Kenwood or Clarion. If you want to spend a little more money, then Rockford fosgate or MTX.

Alpine V12's are really nice. I have the MRV-F340 and have no complaints from it

Whats the Difference between a 50x4 out of a headunit and 50x4 out of a AMP?

The rating on a headunit is a maximum rating. Your headunit probably only puts out around 20W RMS. The rating on an amp is usually an RMS value and will put out true to its rating (or better for some companies). The difference is 2-3X the power. When shopping around for an amp be sure to look for the RMS rating at 4 ohms and 12V. Lower quality companies esp. will try to trick you by giving you values for max wattage, or at a lower impedance (2 ohms etc.), or at a higher voltage (14V etc.)

Re: 4 Channel Amp

Well I am really happy with my pioneer GM-X554 that I got in 2001. It does 50x4 @ 4 ohms stereo. However had I had more cash, I would definitely go with something from zapco, ppi or xtant. Ususally with components, you should never use deck power. Always try to get a good clean high power amp. Many people ususally power their components with high quality 2 channel amp, and leave the rears on deck power, because it is front stage that really matters to the driver.
