First, there are many sub 1000 watt real systems. Second, the factory alternator is good for at least a couple thousand watts of music level watts. Third, in competition SPL a single 250 amp alt would not be fast enough to help the votage drop in a huge system, even if the engine were running. I am not sure if the rules have been updated to allow the engine to run during the SPL portion of the test.

Fourth, as an owner of an OG high output alt, my advice is to keep your factory alternator. You will have much less trouble with your electrical system with probably at least 2000 RMS watts.

Fifth, have a happy and safe holiday season.

I am running over 1000w in my car and I have no need for a aftermarket altenator (guees the cap was all I needed).

Yes the car can run during SPl in all comp orginazations, and Iasca has now done away with spl in Sq for the ultimate class'.

Personally I wouldn't want to be within 100 feet of my car if I did a burp. I still want to listen to music tomorrow and hear at least as many of the details I hear today.

if you were like me though, running in sq, you would also relize you need every bit of power you can get....even in spl the name of the game is power.....i don't know what kind of thousand watt amp you have, well it shouldn't matter, you try to pull 250 amp of current of the factory alternator, and see what it does.....I am pulling 240 at a RMS draw, 380 at full pull from my sub amps.....not to mention the mid amps, and the two dry cells in the trunck that accompany the 4 farad worth of capacitors,,,,try that on your factory alternator...

these alternators are good mesures if you have the pocket book to back it....

The two dry cells are as big a load as a pair of amps at idle. If not more. Have you measured your current draw with a music source? Or is that the possible draw of the amps?

Let's see, I have had 130 amps of current draw for my front stage amps, and 125 - 150 for the sub amp. Measured draw with music turned uncomfortably high, about 60-70 amps for the amplifiers, or 60-70 for the entire car. I can't remember if I measured at the alt or after the cap. No problem, no lights dimming either. That was with the AC and lights on.
