Radio Thieves Suck!

So having moved to the _nice_ part of town I thought radio theft was a thing of the past. Wrong. Somebody busted into my Maxima and made off with my pimptastic Alpine double din 3-Disc changer/tape/eq head unit. Sigh. At least they did minimal damage to the car, and didn't rip off the amps/speakers. Insurance is covering a new radio and all the dash parts they were damaged. (I'm doing the labor of course, because, well I'll do a better job #@%#$^!)

So, since I'm locked into Alpine due to my changer does anyone have thoughts on any of these models?

CDA-7969
CDA-7965

They're both w/o amplifier and have 3 sets of 4V pre-amp outs. The 7969 is pricey, and has one of those overwrought flip around faces. Which you can't take off. Do they really think this fools thieves?

how do you get insurance to cover your stereo equip?

If i mod my stereo and have proof of all my stuff (reciepts, pics) and something gets stolen, can I get $$ fom insurance? Or do you pay extra to cover it. Thanks in advance

I called my agent about my system and he informed me that insurance covers anything that is in the spot where the manufacturer intended. . . Anything else needs to be on a seperate rider policy, and that varies on insurance company and how much you want to insure it for.

My insurance company (AllState) handled things really well. They have a max of $1500 on the stereo stuff, which wouldn't cover me if _everything_ had been ripped off, but it covers the head unit just fine. They also covered all of the replacement dash parts, and will let me do the labor or take it to a shop. (Read - me, as I'm willing to be I will do a more thorough fix)

You need receipts to make things easy. If you're not keeping them already I'd suggest trying to backtrack to where you bought stuff and seeing if they will issue you a copy from their systems. And record your SERIAL #'s!

I'd call your insurance company to make sure. If you have enough $$$ invested and you live in a shady area it might be worth it to take out a rider on the policy.
