where to run ground wire

okay, i'm about to order the power wire for my system but am having a slight dilemma. i'm a little skeptical of getting ground noise in my system, which is one of my big setbacks in most of my installs. would running the ground wire straight from the battery be worth it? i figure if there's any voltage drop from using a chassis ground, that would eliminate it as well as assuming the there probably wouldn't be a chance of engine noise from a bad ground (since it'd be direct from the battery). any input? thanks..

btw, i sand off my grounding points, etc, in installing stuff, but i've still been hesitant on going through this routine again due to the possibility of dealing with it again...
