Help! Subwoofer bass goes on and off.

Over the last couple of months my subwoofer loses its signal every now and then. I mean that it still receives power, but there is no bass. I can feel it moving very little when this happens. Then it will come back for a minute or two.
Here's what I have: 5th gen w/ Bose. Stinger adapter to a Phoenix Gold amp which pushes my woofer.
Any ideas? I have tried rewiring from the amp to the woofer, but that's it. I have no stereo knowledge whatsoever. I took it to the place that installed it and they didn't know or care. Thanks in advance.

This is what the stereo place said, but the power light is still on when I look at the amp. Doesn't that mean it's still working? Also, I had this amp in my other Maxima pushing a twelve and I never had a problem. I lose the bass when I have it on for like ten seconds. It doesn't seem like there is enough time for it to overheat. Thanks for the reply.

Have you checked the ground connection?
