Online Raffle???
What do you guys think of doing an "online " raffle? Pretty basic actually you purchase the ticket for the set amount and win the prize !!
I havent given alot of thought to this yet, as I wanted to gauge interests first. Please post any and all feedback here about your thoughts on it.
Prizes would be in the car audio/video line. Either radio,amp,subs,speakers,etc..One of the above, one from each catergory,or all. Ticket prices would vary obviously.
Tickets could be scanned and emailed, just the number given out, or snail mailed. At the end of ticket sales a number would be drawn. I or my wife can draw the ticket, or you guys can select someone from the Org to do so. Anyone that is chosen to draw the winning ticket can NOT be a buyer of one.
After I can get some feedback on how people feel about doing this, I will rack my brain to fill in some details. This was just a thought that I had and could hopefully be benificial for someone. I mean really how many of you buy scratch off lottery tickets?? LoL

i would start it off small to build interest, maybe a set of speakers, then maybe a set of components, maybe some sound dampening material, then maybe a hu? depending on the cost of the item you could raise the tickets from like $5/each to $10/each etc etc

Great idea
I like the idea. I would play every month. Especially if the odds were like 1:10
****, nevermind, the tickets would be like $50 each then LOL.
Nah, that would be cool though. Especially if you had your choice of said speakers in the same model line. Like 6.5", or 5.25", etc. That would attract more people of all different cars.
Items that would be cool to raffle:
smaller amps, headunits, speakers, wiring kits, etc. The stuff that everyone can use.
Just my $0.02.

trying to give back to the community ehh, i like this raffle. But to see how much of a success it would be, i would definitely start with low products....amps, etc., better yet, get a gauging interest on what people want in the parts for sale and group deal section, and whatever u can get put 1 or 2 or a few in the raffle, and let the highest person win...and it would probably be better if someone wins and they get to pick what they want, rather than raffling items? i dont know how that would work but you put money in for some sound deadening equipment and win some underbody strobe kits....still a win win situation but probably more satisfied people when they choose what they want...dont yaw agree???
not neccesarily chose what they want, because then they'll say give me your most expensive amp
but you could always have it setup where it can be like this raffle chose from: 5x7 speakers, 6x9 speakers, components set, that way then they have a choice, but its limited

You should have a set item. Don't let the winner pick something below a certain dollar value. You could do the first months raffle for something like a set of good coaxial speakers or something of the sort, and charge $5 from everyone who wants a shot. For example, you could do something like the Point Source series coaxials from Eclipse or something. You get 20-25 people each buying a $5 chance, and you would make your money back, as well as provide someone the chance to get a nice upgrade from stock speakers for only $5. I do think that you should have enough interest in the raffles each month -- or week for that matter, to cover your costs and make some profit in return. My personal feeling is that the cost of shipping should also be included in the $5 chance or "ticket."
Whatcha think, Don?

I agree and that was my initial intentions, start with a set of speaker and then eventually grow to bigger and better things. The only problem is I would need to sell more than 20 tickets just to cover the price of THOSE speakers
Shipping would definately be included for the winner, and it would absolutely be possible to buy more than one ticket.
The only other problem is that many people have read this, but not too many replied. Is this a lack of interest? Or are they just waiting for it to start? Pass on the word guys as I dont think I can post a link to this in every forum. Put it in your sigs....whatever makes it work.

Okay no offense here. Remember that line first.
But here is the problem with these online raffles. How is the ticket drawn? Cause some people might say this is a setup and you "pull" a ticket that might of someone you know.
Cant really have a witnessed drawing since that could be stagged as well.
Only reason I ask is because I been through this before and this whole round of questions. Seems like the only way to win everyone's thoughts on this is to hold it publicly but then not everyone can be there.
Im open to ways around this, like I said im not trying to rain on your parade, just want a solution to this for the skeptical people on the net that dont want to buy anything that has even the REMOTE chance of getting scammed.

Don could also make a clause that if someone wins the raffle, then they could not participate in the next two or three of them, in order to prevent the chance of the same person winning it.

I believe that this can be a really good thing for those that dont have the funds for some things that they want and it gives them a chance to win them. I assure you though there is no shady stuff going on....we can always restrict the winner from the next 1,2,3,etc drawings just to prevent from multiple wins, like CD said,if your guys chose that.
Keep coming with the feedback guys, Im sure we can all come up with something that everyone feels confortable with.

If it is done online you may be spending lot of time in the library reading up on the possible legal issues. Not that any normal participant of the forum would distrust you. But that an outsider could order a ticket or simply claim to have ordered a ticket and after the drawing continue with false claims. Possibly even try to sue for their claim. Ampman recently started having raffles. I would email Kirk for his knowledge and research that he did on the topic.
If it were done at a mini-meet it may be better. Even if all the ticket holders could not be present. Also check with the state lottery board / commision. And a few civic groups or businesses in your area that frequently hold raffles.

well
How would payment for tickets be made? Also I think you have a few prizes to start off. Like maybe a a set of speakers, and 7 inch lcd screen, because I am sure most people have speakers, or an HU. But a lot of people don't have lcds, or indash dvd. I think prizes should be chosen by the people that participate. Eventually you could have enough money to hold a drawning every week that has a grand prize (or maybe grand prize once a month), first, sencond and third place prizes. This is my opinion.
i dont think an indash dvd would be to practical.. they run $1000+ he would have to make the ticket prices higher, and would have to get a ton of participation, its better to keep it with cheaper items
as far as legal issues go, a forum i belong to held a raffle, basically just took money throuhg paypal then drew names....

Don,
It looks like you have a lot of people concerned with the legal ramifications of things. I will check some of legal books at home this weekend and help you do some research to get this thing off the ground. I have been looking for someone to do this for quite some time, so I am glad to see that you stepped up to the plate.

I am more than happy to get this up and going, provided I dont get audited, or through into ClubFed.

Well, I know that you are wanting to make some profit, but what if you used the raffle to cover the cost of the products, S&H, an administrative fee (small profit for yourself), and then let the remainder of each raffle go to the upkeep of Maxima.org. Technically, that would be an instance of proceeds going to charity.
