Bose HU replacement

Hey all,
I've done multiple searches, and still am not sure if the Scosche FAI-3 adapter is necessary. I plan on just replacing my head unit. I already have the new H/U, the harness adapter and the dashkit. I also plan to keep the existing bose speakers and amps. Also will the amps work properly with a new H/U?
Thanks ahead for any advice.

If you plan to replace your Bose head unit and use the Bose speakers/amps make sure you have this: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-YPG5Mvm...i=142CNN03&s=0 and also make sure you have an antenna adapter too!

I am not sure if that's a good idea to keep original bose speakers...
As far as I understand Bose HU has a low output, and therefore there are amplifyers for each of the speakers, if the new HU has higher output, you might end up damaging your speakers.

As far as the harness, I think it's just time saving, I don't think it's required if your willing to match the wires "manualy"

I just replaced my bose h/u with an alpine. The only thing that happens with the speakers is that you wont have that great of volume control. At Volume level 4 its already kinda loud, and at 5 its load enough to where it gets distorted. Thats the problem with not replacing the bose speakers.

If you really really want to get the best out of replacing your Bose HU, get the PD-4 here;

www.linkmeup.com

It's kinda pricey ~$180 with harness. BUT, it is the ONLY Bose adapter that allows you to use the Line out RCAs from your new HU and plug them directly into the Bose AMPS/Speakers. You get the cleanest signal without double amplification and you keep the BOSE sound and get all the features of your new HU.

I used the PD-4 to replace my Bose HU wtih a Clarion MP3 unit

hey all,

just a question. to avoid the distortion and loss of volume control with the factory amp on the speakers, can't you just cut the amp out of the loop.. I'm not sure how exactly the maxima's are set up, but on my old sho, there was a factory amp that caused problems with a new head unit. If you just wire around that, it solved the problems. isn't this possible with the maxima system??

wJ

if i'm completely wrong, don't shoot me, I haven't gotten my max yet (tomorrow) so I haven't had a chance to actually look..

Yeah, you can do that, but then you'll lose the BOSE sound. All the BOSE sound is done by EQing/auto loudness etc in the HU and AMPS.

Hi again,

after reading the faq (novel idea, I know).. i have just one more question. The part listed on crutchfeld above(http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...nfo&i=142CNN03), has anyone had experience with that and does it work. The second part listed in this thread is nice, but at 180 is way too much.. I just want a solution to keep the bose effects of the speakers, but be able to put in my sony blackface head unit. Thanks for any help

I dunno if it's exactly the same, but it appears close. I think you need to buy a harness for it though, so that might jack up the price a bit.. dunno if the crutchfeld one needs a harness or not

The harness that you speak of, is it one that you can pick up at a best buy or pep boys. i picked one up at best buy for $15.99 and i believe that it was made by metra dash works.

Hi, I'm trying to install new JVC HU and so far I got the antenna adapter all the harnesses and "dash kit". As far as I understand I also need something like Soche FAI-3 in order for my stock speakers to work with new HU. Is there a website where I can find the whole installation process of new HU for Max'es with pics? And also can anyone give me the complete list of things that I need to replace Bose HU with aftermarket HU. Thanks.
