Bose HU is leaving, Kenwood HU/Changer is coming...

Well, after being on my third HU (which works great now), I've decided to scrap the HU for another one. I'm keeping the Bose amp and speakers until I can afford new ones.

I've picked up a Kenwood KDC-MVP7019 HU and the KDC-C717 10 disc CD changer. Since I already have Sirius satellite radio, I'll hook that up as well. Currently it's via FM modulation, but that'll change too. The satellite radio was the main reason for the switch, because the FM modulation is horrible. I didn't want to hack up the cable and do the cassette hookup route either.

So I looked around for a HU that met my specs. The HU has 3 pairs of RCA outs (front, rear, sub) as well as a whopping 22 watts of RMS power (whippie!!!). So until I can get a 4 channel amp and component speakers to replace the Bose, I'm stuck with them. But now I have a HU that plays MP3s, CDs (and CDRWs), Satellite radio, Sub-controls, and an Aux input.

I'll definitely do a writeup on this install, because I know it needs to be done. The new system will be installed when all the parts arrive, but I had to order them from 3 different places in order to get the best deal. So they may not be installed for another week or so.

Remember, all that will happen to those 22 watts per channel is that they will be converted to ao Bose-friendly signal and amplified by the Bose amps. You cannot push the Bose speakers directly off of the HU. Did you get the adapter?

Yes. I actually got 2 different adapters. One will use PAC's OEM-1 interface. The other takes the factory harness and converts the "speaker" (amp) inputs into male RCA connectors. I'm "testing" the 2nd setup to see how it will sound with the Bose amp. If it's horrible, I'll use PAC's setup to convert the RCA line level output to Bose line level input.

Sounds Cool

That is exactly what I will be doing about the end of March/first part of April (only I plan on using the KDC-X859 HU). That write-up would be absolutely HUGE!!! Let us know how it turns out, and how the sound quality is. Good luck!
