HU and Amp problems - need advise

Ok, here's what I got in my trunk -

2 Sony Explode 10's in a sealed box
1 Sony Explode 1000 Watt Amp
1 Kenwood 600 Watt amp
1 1/2 Rockford Fos. Caps
New Sony HU (don't remember model #) -
4 Rockford 6.5 speakers in the interior.

The 600 Watt amp is wired to my interior speakers, where the 1000 Watt amp pushes the subs (It's supposed to be hooked up this way at least)

Here is the problem -
I am unable to fade my speakers from front to back. If I fade to the front I get absolutely NO sound. I want to be able to do this because with a baby in the car, if I want to turn off my subs and just listen to the interior speakers I can. However I can't - I took my car back to the shop that installed the system and they said they fixed it, but they didn't. I don't think I'll be able to take my car back to the shop again either (other problems we've had with them, I doubt they will actually help us).

Also my amp has been cutting out on me lately. First it would happen if the sound was up REALLY high (like if my husband was listening to the stereo) however I don't normally listen to it 'that' loud. But, the subs did cut out on me the other day.
I'm thinking they might be grounded wrong?

I'm having a friend of mine look at the speakers this weekend. Is there something they should maybe look at in particular that I can tell him? Something with the RCA's and they way they are hooked up? I don't think him and his friend would attempt working on my car if they didn't know what they were doing, but I figured I would just ask anyways.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give...

Sarah

One more thing - I would think that with as much power as I got my car should be hittin hard....well it does on the interior, but you really don't hear it on the outside of my car (maybe I don't have it up loud enough hehe)

Could that be the type of box I have? I've gone through both the bandpass and now have a sealed box. Could there be to much air? I want to get custom speaker boxes that take up less space and sound alot better, but I gotta find someone who can do that.

Check the model number on the headunit. It should say someplace on the front. Then we will know if it has seperate front, rear and sub outputs. If it has a sub output and it isn't hooked up that will greatly affect the bass and overall system volume. It sounds like it is possible your headunit only has rear channel RCA outputs. If that is true your easiest and best option would be to return it for one with the front, rear and sub output. It's pretty common for a headunit to have all these outputs now. A few years ago it was less common. You could also use speaker level to RCA adapters. But I wouldn't do it if I didn't have to.

Check to see if there are any org members with stereo experience in your local maxima.org forum. Most of the time members are willing to help others for no charge.

Several points at once:

The fading: is it a 2 or 4 channel amp? If 2, no fading is possible. If 4, you have to have 4 channels of RCA output for JUST the mids/highs, AND you have to have run 4 RCA channels, not counting the RCA output & run fo rthe sub signal.

About the shutdown: When it shuts down, is it hot? Is there adequate ventilation? It could be many things. Answer those ?s and we can try to troubleshoot more.
