rms/peak power q
im in the market for new speakers for my 4th gen...was seriously considering some infinity's because i like them and found a few good deals on the internet.
ive heard a lot of stuff about alpine so i decided to check out prices, and they seem a little more expensive, but worth a listen
before i go ear testing, i want to know why alpines (generally) seem
have a much lower rms rating (40-50) and peak power (200) than the infinity's (90ish) and (270) ---of course all depending on model
thanks
matt
oh yeah, btw....i still cant figure out what fits 6.5 or 6.75 i see both thrown all over the boards hear (98 with bose)

There is no real explanation for why some companies make theur speakers at 10Wrms and some 200Wrms. I bet if you look hard you wil find Alpines at 100Wrms. Im not too sure if that was what u were asking for. And dont concern yourslef too much with peak power.. always and I mean always look at the RMS value.

ok well i should specify im looking to use a blaupaunt skyline hu from like two years ago (dont remember power....40 or 45 i think)
just for an expamle:
Alpine Type-R SPR-176A has 8 to 50 rms
and
infinity kappa and reference 605 series both have 2-90
will the alpines really be distorted at high volumes?

If you are going to power these from your HU then you should worry that they will blow from under powering them (distortion). And the range for wattage on speakers is what you should really stick to when powering them, but try to power them with close to their max RMS value. ex. for those infinities... and amp that can do 200Wrms X 2 would be perfect.
