I kept my factory headunit, but my understanding is you will need to change out everything (fronts/rears/sub) and also buy an amp. I think its all or nothing with the Bose system. I did this just last weekend and bought:

Fronts - 6.5" Infinity Reference 605CS Components
Rears - 6.5" Infinity Reference 6521
Sub - 10" Alpine SWR-1041D (and box of course)
Amp - Alpine MRV-F450 5-Channel

It sounds 100 times better than the Bose did. The whole thing set me back a little over $1200...

Well, I'm far from a car stereo expert, but the Alpine amp I have is awesome. The sound is extremely clean and its got plenty of power. I'd imagine it would push your 12 just fine, but I'd verify that...

Heres a link to the Alpine MRV-F450

I sure the other guys here could also recommend some good stuff.

Yeah, keeping the bose HU and adding great speakers and amps almost seems like a bandaid, you still have the poor sound qualities of the bose and the HU makes a huge difference in the signal that those speakers get. I have Kappa Perfects and they gobble power up, but shine after 50% volume. Feeding them a good signal will be even better if you go that way in the future.

I'm going to look into replacing the HU later on. For now, it sounds really good though. $1200+ was more than I wanted to spend in the first place. It was a good start though. The system does sound better at high volume, but certainly isnt bad down low. The Alpine sub is insane, I have to remember to tighten my license plate.

Hi,
I want the same set up as your but when i called Crutchfield, they said the Infinity Kappa 6.5 or 6-3/4 speakers will not for the front and rear factory set up. If you could install them, please post the pics. Thanks

I did not have a Bose, but it all worked for me.

From my research, the Bose HU does not offer enough juice to make the perfects work any where near their capabilities. The components I have in my car work incredible together.

Good luck.

I push my 12" perfects with American Legacy 800 watt amps. Got mine for like 80 bux each, which are each pushing their own sub. Im a sound freak, and im extremely pleased with the output. It most definitely taps into the perfect's potential, and with huge bass it really comes through.
