I knew I shouldnt have gotten the bose! This is just turning into a headace. Went to bestbuy and asked them about the Metra PN# 70-7551 and they said that they do not carry it. I'm just going to buy the one online and try that out. With all this trouble I should just replace the whole system but I dont want to go through the trouble of replacing the sub too. someone shoot me!!!!

Mine sounds great. They used the Metra 70-7550, which is what they had. There was a little electrical interference from the engine and even some clicks and pops when the CD would change tracks, so I took it back in and they fixed that.

ok I just read through the entire thread and am still a little confused. I have a 96 Maxima with the Bose system and want a different head unit. I understand if I need to buy the
ROEM-NIS2 kit to keep the Bose speakers.

My question is will I lose audio quality or not????

does it bypass the bose amp?

or put your new headunit signal into one the bose amp and speakers can handle giving you the same sound quality??

I don't think it bypasses it...all I can tell you is it sounds much better than stock with a new HU and adapter

Howdy all,
Great thread with a lot of good info for a newbie like me ...
Ive got a 92 Max SE, with all the stock Bose. I really just want to put in a CD Player, but not a cd changer.
Can anyone point me to a decent HU, and a link for the adapter i need?
Id like to keep cost down, so im not lookin to spend a bundle on the HU.
Thanks much in advance

The PAC home page directed me to a local dealer that stocked their products, and when I called this dealer he said that they don't stock them because 'generally' they don't have to use the NIS2 kit to install a aftermarket HU and still utilize the stock bose stuff. He says that he would run a non-bose adapter and it would be fine; might play 'louder' at lower levels, but would be fine unless loud isn't what I was looking for.

My concern is that since the bose amp was designed for a signal input (2-4 volts) instead of radio output used in the form of input (20-40 watts), that doing it this way would fry the factory bose amp.

What do you guys think??

Wow. This has to be the longest running non-stickied thread ever.

Read the stickies before you post please. Specifically for you, my post in the Car Audio FAQ Sticky.

Thanks.

I did the reinstall myself and the audio shop said just use the cheapo nissan harness which worked fine, i read on here though that i might burn out the amp and hu if i put the volume up or after a while so i decided to be safe and get the 46.00 thingy

my antenna doesn't go up either

i have the schosche oea4 adaptor & a pioneer DEH3700 H/U. i also used the ant. adaptor crutchfield gave me.

i'm not sure how to connect the antenna power wire from the PAC to the headunit? Do I connect it to the blue/white wire? The antenna does not go up at all, but i still get good reception.
Any advice?

Here is a fix to a problem I ran into installing a pioneer hu in my 02.

After wiring up the ROEM-NIS2 into the aftermarket harness, I could not get any sound coming out of my speakers. The hu turned on, but nothing came out. After reviewing the fact that the bose system uses factory amp's, it donned on me that you need to have the blue remote wire connected in order to "turn on" the factory amp. Most cars do not use this blue remote wire in my experiance installing aftermarket hu's so I did not think it was used here.
Just my 0.02 in case someone else had the same problem.

No problems with the unit. Once you know where all the wires go, that's about the end of it.

Price is somewhere around 1500. Eclipse AVN-5435

Then mount it further back, keeping in mind the face is motorized. Mine can go a little bit further back without it hindering the movement.

i'll keep that in mind, I was assuming that wasn't enough space in the hole so it might stick out, but i guess there is plenty.

btw do you know of any good sites that sell wide varieties of these dvd players?

There are only a few manufacturers of double din screen'd head units.

Eclipse, Pioneer, Kenwood, Jensen, maybe one or two more.

Do you need to replace the stock tweeters as well if I only wanted after market speakers and HU?

Typically if you replace with coaxials you remove the tweeters and don't use them anymore. If you replace with components the tweeter will be replaced.

nissan/infiniti pac oem-nis2 popping audio

I just read your post, albeit a little old. I just installed an Alpine 9857 with the pac roem-nis2, while retaining the stock Bose amp / speakers. everything sounds great except for a turn-on pop. I why would this appear with an aftermarket head unit and not the stock Bose head unit?
Is there a built in delay in the Bose head unit? Or maybe a grounding issue that I have overlooked?

Thanks

the reason for the long bump...

this site won't let me post until I have responded to 15 other posts.
So even though I would like to post an entirely new question on this topic for people to help me with, I have to find an old post that is similar and hope someone can assist from there, for the time being.
thanks

Hi, I've just signed up for this forum and I found lot of information here.

I'd like to replace broken Bose HU in my Maxima '96 with Alpine CDA-9833. From this thread, I understand that I'll need Metra 70-7551 harness and antenna adapter. Do I need to get anything else?

So I plug RCA connectors in Metra 70-7551 to preamp outputs in Alpine HU. But how do I connect other wires, like power, etc?

Also somethere else I read that this HU needs "direct fuse to battery". What does it mean? Should I worry about this?

Thx

It's Maxima 1996 (4th generation) with Bose system.
Is there a chart that shows how to connect wires
from Metra 70-7551 to wires from HU?
I have not got 70-7551 yet, but I've seen its picture that shows a bunch of wires coming from it (apart from RCA plugs).

Just connect the wires that are the same color.

red-red
yellow-yellow
blue (w/o stripe)-blue (w/o stripe)
orange-orange
You're going to have to find a ground.
And then your green/white/purple/grey are taken care of.
