Hey guys,

I just bought an amp for my 97 SE and I need to know the best location to route the wire from the battery through the firewall to the amp. Any ideas?

ok, i just did this and it was a pain in the ***. i didnt want to drill a hole in the fire wall, so this is what i did. if you open up your drivers side door and look in where the door is hinged, you will see a group of wires going in through the fender and into the car. there is a tight seal around the wires, so you cant just slid the power cable through. first try sliding a coat hanger through, its kinda awkward to get in there since the door is in the way, but some bending of the coat hanger and youll get it in. then after you get part of the coat hanger all the way through and you can grab the other side from inside the car, duct tape the power cable to the coat hanger, and pull like hell. so now after you got the power cable through there you gotta get it up into the engine compartment. if you open the hood youll see a hole in the upper right hand corner(drivers side). now, get some sort of junk cable(bright color so you can see it) and slide an end through that hole, and down into the fender. now, if you open your drivers side door and look into the fender, you should see that cable you just droped down in there. figure out a way to grab that cable out(i made a hook out of a long piece of coat hanger) so that you can tape your power cable to it and pull it up into the engine compartment. thats it.

I haven't found any factory provided holes in my fourth gen. I recommend a 3/4 or 1 inch drill bit.

I just did this a few days ago. Look under the dash on the drivers side. Above and to the left of the brake pedal you'll see a triangular shaped cut out in the rubber insulation. I yanked it out and behind that is the firewall. It is safe to drill into that area without damaging anything. After you have drilled the hole and put the battary wire through, you'll be able to see the wire from the engine bay very easily. BTW, I have a '99 max.

I recommend putting it lower, near the floor. That way the wire does not have to bend sharply as it enters the car. This is how it is in my '99 SE w/1/0.

Easier way

There is a hole provided. I just did this last week on my 97 gxe. About 18 inches above the accelerator (gas pedal) there is hole. There is a rubber grommet in it though so it is hard to see. It might be easier to spot from the outside. You will see the small rubber grommet (less than a half an inch wide) a little bit to the right of center behind the engine. It is engine level. Hope this helps.

There's a rubber grommet thing by the master cylinder. poke a hole through it and it should lead to the inside of the car
