hey guys i'm about to install some subs in my car and was wondering what you guys think of it. let me know if i'm doing something stupid. i got a few questions also along the way....

in 2 weeks i'm buying an MA Audio amp throwing 1000W RMS @2ohms x2 at a pair of Kicker 12 inch L7s, dual voice coil pw at 750rms 1400max. heres what i'm thinking, i want to put a battery in the back, so i wil not have to worry about my headlights dimming or anything else because i figure this thing is going to eat power and i don't want to drain my main battery to much. i was going to also throw in 2 1 farad caps in the trunk also. i know caps don't really do much but if i have a battery back there are they completly useless? i was going to put 2 yellow top optima batts in my car, one replaceing my current one. i was wondering the best way to charge the batts also. i was told i should charge them off the other batt but i was thinking of charging it off the altinator. maybe i have no clue what i'm saying again i'm new to this but what i'm thinking of i think will work...also should i just buy a standard box for my L7s or should i make my own? i'm building a box for the amp and caps and optima so i'm not opposed to the extra work if its really worth it. also what do you guy reccomend for a box pushing that much power? i'v seen L7's with huge vents...is that the way to do it? i'v also seen them in completly sealed boxes... anyways any help or ideas would be greatly appriciated. thanks guys,

There is absolutely no need whatsoever to add a second battery, all it will do is increase strain on your alternator and cause problems in the future. Throw in a 3+ farad cap and call it a day. If you play the stereo while the car is not running, then you may want to up your stock battery to a Yellow top or equivelant.

thanks don. any advice on a good Cap? are they all the same pretty much? and what about ported or none ported what do you guys like?

 

I tend to stick with Stinger, they have been the best to me so far. But then again I do buy ALOT of there stuff ($1500-$2K a month).

As for ported or sealed...it would be 100% YOUR choice.

cap would be fine or you can get the yellow top for the front and get a better alt.

 

can you give me a link to a better altinator? so a better alt & a yellow top and a 3 farad cap and i'll be in buisness right?

 

I would do one or the other, either the cap alone, or the alt and battery...Ohio generaters makes some of the beter alts out there.
