what is all this fequency stuff about?

i just bought an alpine 7893 deck, two alpine type e subs, and a 4 chanel amp, and a mono amp. on the deck it says i can change the frequency of the bass and treble, but it does not tell me what it does or how it effects the speakers. does anyone know what i should set them on? thanks

WOW... ok... basically what that is is a filter for your speakers... the signal sent from the HU will be limited to what the speakers can handle... usually the 6.5" speakers can go down to 50Hz without being distorted... but to be safe set it at 70Hz (I dont know what speakers you have) and that will be your cut off for the speakers...

For the amp is the oposite... your average amp.. I dont know about the ones you have but to be safe and happy set the setting at abou 60-70HZ and this is the cut off for your subs.

Basicaly... the speakers wont play a signal thats lower then 70Hz and subs wont play anything higher than 70Hz and therefore your system wont distort....

yea wow is right. im pretty stupid when it comes down to stereo tweaking, but im learning! i have polk seperates in the front, and polk 2ways in the back. the fronts are very nice, they cost my over $220, and the rears were like $149. i just got the manual from my file box and for my rears the freq. responce is 55-22khz. and for my fronts it says 6.5 driver 50hz-22khz, and the tweeter 4khz-22khz. also for my subs it says freq. responce: Fs-1khz. i don't know... maybe if you can make sense of it you can tell me? i mean i am guessing set the freq. to what the speakers say, but what do i do about my front speakers? i don't think i can set two freq. responces for them. ahh, so confussed thanks for your help.

Dont worry about the comps... thats why they come with the X-over ... all you need to do is cut them off at 60Hz... cause I dont think they will go tdown to 50Hz but you can try (but really now thats a sub territory). Do as the manual says and you will be happy.. BTW I also have Polks in my car... only front thou... dot need rear fill... and they are cut off at 65Hz for me.. and sound great.
