Can an I30 owner ask a question.....

I own a 2000 Infiniti I30 (basically a 5th Gen Max). I am looking to replace the factory BOSE HU and interior speakers. (Thanks Studman and others for all the helpful posts and links). However, I have a few, admittedly, elementary questions that I haven't seen answered:

1) What's the door speaker size in the front and rear (cant tell w/o first removing the panels)??? I have done my reserach...but I keep getting conflicting reports. Some people tell me 5 1/4's all around some say 6 1/2's. Can anyone give me any clarity. I even saw a diagram showing 6 3/4's in the front.. PLEASE HELP!

2) I've talked to one Max.org member with the same car...and he tells me the dash kit for the 5th Gen Max would not fit a 2000 I30 (differences in panels etc). Anyone have any experience with a dash kit for the I30? (Studman?)<=== saw your HU install and it looks good....any idea if that Metra kit fits my car?

3) My plans are to replace the BOSE HU with my Alpine 7875 and drop Infinity components in the front doors and coaxials in the rear. I currently have 2 12's in box that I plan to run off an 2 channel Alpine V12 (cant remember model). For now I want to run the interior speakers off the Alpine HU power. Is this possible given the existing Bose wiring?? Is it true that I need to re-wire the entire system?

I've seen the posts concerning the PAC adapter and line level converter, do I need these for what I'm trying to do??? again, PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks Guys!!!

1.) I believe they are 6-3/4"(also called 6-1/2 oversized) in the front doors and 5-1/4" in the rear doors. That is what Crutchfield lists for a 2000 maxima.

2.) can't help you there...sorry

3.) you will need to replace the speakers, or use one of those PAC adapters.

...hope this helps

1) Well, I have a 2k2 and I don't think they changed the rear doors (no reason for them to) and the rear speakers are the exact same size as the fronts; Oversized 6.5" (AKA 6.75").

2) You're on your own there.

3) If you replace the HU and the speakers, then no reason to replace the wires (wire is wire after all). But if you ever run power to them from an amp, you would want to run new wire of a larger gauge (stock is like 22 gauge).

Thanks for the advice! So any idea if a set of Infinity Kappa 6 1/2 components will fit the oversized opening or do I need adapters/mounts?

you can buy an adapter that will make the 6-1/2"s fit perfectly. Just stop by a car audio shop and ask them if they carry them. good luck!

Send an IM to "MaineI30"

I forgot his name here but he has one of the coolest in-car multimedia setups I've ever seen. He has a 2001 I30t and has had several setups and was even featured in a magazine.

He'll know about the dash kit. As far as the rest of the Bose system, it's identical to a 5th Gen Max's. I'm pretty sure the wiring colors are even the same (at least they were in my case).
